Here we go, an isolated island continent plunged into war, people who wished to end the warring state revived a powerful weapon called the "Admonisher" and threatened the participants with it. Thus all of the wars were ended by force, people behind this called themselves the "Peace Maintenance Brigade" 20 years later the old men of the Brigade are no longer able to maintain the peace and guess what happens..

War has once again broken out among the inhabitants of the continent with a mysterious famine, leaving the citizens to fight over what little fertile land is left, while the cities are constantly attacked by fierce amphibious monsters known as "Screapers".

The missions are a mixed some easy but some are really challenging and satisfying to overcome. At first it sounds like the hardest mission ever since the number of enemies on the field are so overwhelming that by rescuing one of them, another will likely die. Upon reading the guide, I found out that you can simply walk up to them and grab the item on their corpse which apparently counts as “saving” them.

The North American limited edition release included a 100-page artbook, multimedia disc of music and artwork, keychain, two lenticular cards, and three pins. The Limited Edition is the only edition of Growlanser V to be published in North America. It was released in a single print and then discontinued. The North American version has a new, smoother engine not present in the Japanese version.

Another game that i didn't had the chance testing it but thanks to RetroGAMEtalk i can emulate this underrated gem, i loved it. These days i have more free time from work and i am in a JRPG hunt excluding Final Fantasy.

I also note that there are numerous side quests, some of which are completely missable which is yet another reason why I recommend using a guide because I found myself having to reload saves due to being unable to get certain character’s ultimate weapons due to missing a certain event or item. The side content is definitely worth doing as you can get some great rewards for doing it, plus some of them involve side stories that can be interesting to see too.

This is it folks, until my next thread see you..

Growlanser IV (which we finally got in English as Wayfarers of Time on the PSP) was amazing. I went back and played 2 and 3 (2 is alright, 3 is solid) but I need to get to Heritage one day soon. Can't wait for 1 and 6 to be translated either.

I fraking love the Growlanser games and I hope the we get all games translated.
So far we only got Heritage of war and Wayfarer of time.

Would be nice to playing 1-3 and 6

This game has the most cool looking protagonist (art design) of all the Growlanser games. I liked how the game make him indispensable since you are the only one that can make those scrapers weak to damage.
It has a nice story that goes through many years, you get to play in the past so you can see how this "solving the war problem" thing ended up more problematic than the war itself. Maybe my favorite thing here is that Coin of Friendship, how it went hand by hand, promises by promises, and ended up in your hands. It's my third favorite game of the series.

2 and 3 are translated, both are here:

Includes:

  • Disc 1: Growlanser II – The Sense of Justice
  • Disc 2: Growlanser III – The Dual Darkness
6 is also translated, not 100% but the story is completely translated and its absolutely playable.

WARNING - Beware of bugs with Growlanser on PCSX2:

Check also the wiki of pcsx2 to know if a game runs properly or not:
