Grilled/Toasted cheese sandwich thread

For a grilled sammich and probably a shitty cup of coffee? Where do you live? New York?
Dang, for 30 freedom units I can buy everything to make the sammich, coffee and still have money left over for well....
I dunno what, but something

Yeah, plus you could make more than one toastie buying the ingredients separately.

Ya and if we forgo buying coffee, I usually have coffee on hand anyway. I could buy the fixings, just using the ingredients mentioned ham, tomato, cheese. Probably make 5-6 good ones or about 12 thin ones, give or take.

Reminds me of when I was maybe 15. My brother and I were out and stopped at a small roadside restaurant.
He ordered a burger, fries, and a drink. I got a small cheese pizza and a soda. They wanted around 25 bucks for it.

Mind you at the time, a large four topping pizza with a side order of fries was about the same price as what we ordered. My brother looked straight at the owner and said something along the lines of...

"The fuck man? Do you have to grow the vegetables, shoot the cow, and grind it up? After you milk it to make the god damn cheese by hand?"

He rightly flipped the guy off. We left, and we just got cheap pizza and burgers instead for about 12 bucks or so.

I personally wouldn't factor the coffee in, just because I don't drink it. For $30 USD? I could probably make a few more than 5-6 good sammy's hehe

I should preface this is a joke: Was it Panucci's? I hear a cheese Pizza & a large soda is $10.77 there

But seriously, there are too many modern take-away joints I could name that are out there nickel and diming people
Stop making me hungry you all !
:loldog
How do you think I feel? I made the dang thread :loldog

Eu, pessoalmente, não levaria o café em conta, só porque não bebo. Por US$ 30?

AquiHere in my country a large pizza costs 50 or 60 depending on whether it is a capital or a small city, those luxury pizzas can cost up to 300

Since I don't know where you are from, I can't give you a comparison of prices. But here, a fully loaded large pizza is roughly about 45 USD. Prices vary depending on the place... some are a bit cheaper, some are higher.
But it's generally around 45 USD.

Now, a large in my area is either thick or thin crust. They are usually 18 inches in diameter, roughly anyway.
Typically, a fully loaded pizza includes four meats, three cheeses, extra sauce, and five vegetables, topped with cheese again... You know, a myocardial infarction with garlic.

As for a luxury pizza, I don't think I've ever seen one labeled as such, at least not in real life.
The only thing I can think of is the Louis XIII, which has three types of caviar, organic buffalo mozzarella, and edible gold for around 12,000 USD.

But that's kind of an ultra-rich person thing.

And yeah, 45 freedom units is way too much for pizza. I just buy cheap gas station pizza mostly. It's actually on par with a lot of restaurant pizzas here. You can get the whole thing for 8 bucks. Cheese and 1-2 Toppings
Even make a fresh one if you ask for a buck extra

If I have Pizza, it's usually frozen. Even cheaper and I can just buy more stuff to add to it if I need to. Extra cheese, toppings, sauce etc. So probably works out to the same cost as the gas station in that case.
Although, based on your description, the gas station one would probably still be nicer ::cirnoshrug

Mind you, this gas station has a little restaurant in it, but it's not a sit down and eat place.

It's more of an order, pick up, and get the fuck out of the way for the next customer kind of place.
It has good food... make sandwiches, pizzas, pastas, and a little of everything and it's cheap.

I know that for a burger with cheese, pickles, mayo, or whatever condiments you want on it, fries, and a drink, it's around five dollars. And it's not some McDonald's thin patty, it's a fairly decent sized burger.

I love the sheer food excess in the U.S. Once, a friend of mine who spent a few years living in San Diego told me that over there, the big fast-food chains serve these massive burgers with really good-quality meat and ingredients.
Here, though, those exact same burgers are actually tiny—basically low-grade, frozen knock-offs.
It’s kind of the same deal with the few Chinese restaurants we’ve got around here: the dishes all end up tasting the same, and they’ve clearly been reworked to match European tastes.
But in reality, Chinese cuisine offers a huge range of flavors—some of them really unusual—and it’s incredibly diverse.

Maybe years ago. Now, fast food places all have the same tiny, overpriced, and quite frankly questionable meat wise burgers. Now, a non chain restaurant will have a good real burger and food for the most part, but it's overpriced... twice to three times what it would cost to make yourself.

Like the gas station I was talking about, I don't know if they use tofu "meat" or real hamburger, but I have tried their burgers once, tried a bite of one Jez had gotten when we were out doing some real life stuff. They taste good, but like I said, five dollars... can't really complain, I guess.

As for Chinese food, yeah, now the ones around here actually have decent to good food, and unlike the ones you mentioned, all the food doesn't taste the same with more soy sauce or less, you know. But it's been ages since I ate Chinese food, so that may be different now too.

That's pretty much how I'd describe both general fast food & Chinese restaurants in my country too. What's worse is I used to really enjoy the Thai restaurants here, but they're becoming more and more like generic Chinese food. You can tell they're cutting more corners in quality, while they have only gotten more expensive.

Yes, it matches the period when he lived there. More than 20 years ago.

What you’re saying is true. I don’t know where you live right now, but there’s definitely been a general drop in quality. For example, here near me in Milan, up until a few years ago there were “ethnic” restaurants that were mostly visited by people from the same country as the owners, and you could pretty much count on getting food that was well-prepared, tasty, and generous in portions. Prices were fairly reasonable too.

In some European capitals there are still Chinese or Arab neighborhoods where you can eat really well. For instance, in Marseille, where there’s a large North African community, you can enjoy one of the best couscous royals ever—along with plenty of other specialties.

I guess I could always look for new places to go to, but going to restaurants is a bit of a time and money commitment that's getting more difficult to justify. Outside of having a reason to go out to eat anyway, like catching up with people.

Ya aside from going out with my bro and his girlfriend from time to time or one of my friends, I cook 99% of the food I eat. It's cheaper, and I make it just how I like
