As the counterpart To a previous Thread, i bring those games with great plots that sadly you have to slog though awful gameplay mechanics or lame gameplay in general

Mother 1, that game introduced me to the best Nintendo Trilogy ever, however playing it nowadays with the rose glasses off, the game's combat and exploration aged like fine milk, the plot, my, the plot, is easly the second best next to Mother 3

how about Never dead on the Xbox 360 ?

NeverDead PS3

I have a hard time with stuff that's menu driven in the vein of Maniac Mansion or the Macventures. It just feels clunky and bad to me, even with a mouse. But the games themselves are great and worth suffering through it for.

Probably Pandemonium? I love that game but, at its core, it's just jumping around over and over again, to the point where I am so numb to it, I can't even play it all in one go, despite how easy it is. I need to take breaks just to stimulate myself some after four or so levels XD

Maniac Mansion is weird sure, but Day of The Tentacle is easy.

It's the interface itself. I just don't like messing with it. I'd rather watch a playthrough. Makes no sense that I find the VGA Sierra stuff or even later Lucas stuff like Full Throttle less cumbersome even though it involves tons of right clicking. Can't explain it, it's just my take. ::cirnoshrug

For a survival horror game, I think Soma is pretty weak in the gameplay department, but it's still an interesting experience based entirely on the atmosphere and the narrative

I nominate Deadpool and Deadly Premonition. Both have a fun premise and Deadpool especially is laugh out loud funny in places but the stiff and boring gameplay and simply garbage controls in Deadly Premonition's case really impede one's enjoyment.

My old mouse had only one button. lol No scroll wheel, no left click or right click. Just click.

Yeah because you could just watch the cutscenes on YT.
Hell yeah! ::dkapproves

For me it's gotta be any widely acclaimed Point 'n Click game. Even back in the 90's I could not stomach the obtuse puzzles. Thankfully there are plenty of longplays available nowadays. I've finally been able to watch the entire story unfold in many of the games I wrote off.

Deadly Premonition 1
the gameplay and mechanics of this game is one of the worst ones out there; it feels like a rock in a shoe. but the characters, the inspirations from Twin Peaks and the plot. all of them are great.

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days is not really bad to play, but it does get really repetitive. really fast, especially if you play it all in one or few bursts. In compensation the narrative is probably the best in the series, and actually very well told, and it also does a good job of using the gameplay to tell it's story. It is also not that confusing. It is a Kingdom Hearts game that is mostly understandable!!!

- Death Stranding series

- Radiant Historia (Game is long that require you to remember tons of details from lots of timelines as you time travel and honestly long ass slow turn based combat can make you forget how you came to that point in the game and what you were going to do lol)

- Freedom Wars (It's time waster game with "let's attack the same ordinary enemy for an hour" gameplay)

- Code Vein (Good thing it doesn't even have God Eater style gameplay but its Dark Souls wannabe gameplay is still bad, what's good is instead of a Souls game it is more like old games with fair gameplay)

- Bioshock series (Pew pew American action)

- Witcher 1 (My dudes wanted to develop a flash game lol)

- Star Wars KOTOR 1 (Are you turn based or real time action game? Decide motherfucker lol)

- LIGHTNING RETURNS: FINAL FANTASY XIII (Developers were having a brain fart, better had make it real-time action I guess)

- Alan Wake (If enemies were just able to be killed via flashlight I would call the gameplay actually proper. American pew pew action annoys me when there are so much enemies to deal with.)

- Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy (Worst usage of BS detailed controls even to just stand up and quick time events lol)

- Breath of Fire 4 (Fuck the environmental puzzles and random enemy encounters even during environmental puzzles)

Makai Toshi Saga (AKA Final Fantasy Legend in the USA) has a uniquely surreal plot, but its leveling system is frustrating to learn and its mechanics are rendered obsolete by the same console's Legend 2
<In which the entire story was just an Amish guy creating the entire suffering of the plot over... being bored
