Basically, some of the best food you can learn to make, gratin dishes are, in essence, anything baked in the oven with a generous helping of cheese on top (Bit more complicated than that, but that's how I best understand it anyway).

Lasagne, Scalloped potatoes, Pasta bakes. Let's get a discussion going for one of my favourite foods to cook, and especially to eat ;D

*I had a go at making Doria over the weekend, a gratin dish which is rice with béchamel sauce and cheese on top. I reckon I know what I can do to improve on my recipe, but it's satisfying having given it a go and having a good base to work from :)

It's a fairly easy recipe. You just make rice however you like. You could even do fried rice with some egg & bacon or whatever. Similar to the recipe you shared, you could even mix it in with some cooked meat. I, somewhat boringly, only boiled some brown rice with some vegetables hehe

Once your rice is cooked and dried out, pack it tightly into an oven safe dish, put the beschamel sauce over top and cover it in cheese. Then it's just a matter of melting the cheese until it's golden and browned 🤤

The only potentially complicated part is dependent on how you like your rice. I prefer brown rice, so that adds a good 40-50 minutes of cooking time on its own ::sailor-embarrassed
