Grand Thread Auto - 3D era [GTA 3, Vice City, San Andreas]

GTA was the only video game i wasn't allowed (R18)
i remember one day i found a GTA Ps1 disc on the sidewalk, i couldn't believe my luck!
but it was scratched really badly and didn't work at all
eventually i got my hands on it but never really enjoyed the series until GTA3
VC is my favorite so far ?

Although I also played those famous 3D GTA video games mentioned in the title of the thread above and the three 3D GTA games are great. But for some reason, I played them in the PS2 version through emulation on PC, obviously.

GTA 1? Yeah you weren't missing out on much lol

I played Vice City so much back in the day - a friend got me a mod that replaced all game cars with their real-world equivalents. I tried each of the following games as they came out but none ever grabbed me in the same way as the car handling didn't feel the same. Driving made up a large part of why I enjoyed it, racing along VC beach front, finding ramps, stealing the Comet from the golf club... good times!

San Andreas continues to surprise me with how much detail they put into what is primarily a PS2 game. The scope is vast but it doesn't feel as empty as it probably really is.

My (long distance) girlfriend came to stay with me for 2 weeks earlier this month, she's from Vermont. I had a playthrough of SA going, and was up to the Badlands section of the story between Los Santos and San Fierro. So driving around the countryside in semi trucks and stuff, rural dingy towns on the highways. Lots of overcast and foggy weather. It's just like home to her. Add Radio X and K-DST to the mix, and she enjoyed just watching me play when we weren't busy. Watching the missions, comparing it to her hometown, driving the cars she liked most, and showing off cool things about the game. She too was impressed at how detailed it is for such an old game.

Funnily enough, when I went to visit her a while back. We were in her brothers semi truck driving along with some classic rock on the radio and I was thinking "Holy shit, I am fully IN San Andreas right now." Being from England, that's the only reference of rural America I have, and they nailed it. So yeah, Whetstone, Angel Pine, Flint County, Mt. Chilliad. Country bumpkin approved.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is absolutely peak!
Absolutely. It gave me a love and appreciation for 80s music just from the hours spent cruising around making my own fun.

SA was really impressive. Great, memorable characters. I haven't played it in ages, are any of the ports any good or nah?
Depends on what you want to play it on really. Although I tend to find nothing can beat the PS2 graphical effects.

My favorite was Vice City. I played it the most of the trilogy. San Andreas is a close second for me, though. I could never get into the HD era. I put a grand total of four hours into GTA5.

The ones I played the most were GTA 3 and Vice City because I only owned those as a kid , and I got Driv3r instead of San Andreas.

But if I want to be honest, I much preferred Mafia in the early 2000s, even though it lacked freedom, I preferred a more serious narrative and storyline.
