Has anybody heard of or played the Early 2000's Gothic Games? Somebody had made a Multiplayer thing of the first game called Gothic Coop. Seen there is supposed to be a Remake of the first game, coming out. These games could probably be more fun with more Modder Support in other Languages. Mods seem to be in only One, that isn't English.

Here are some Video Showcases of the First & Second Game:

Gothic Coop:

I played the first game all the way through a few years ago. Has a wonderful atmosphere but it took a while to get used to weird controls (especially inventory) and the combat was wonky as well. But I managed in the end.

Growing up in Germany back in the day that series was everywhere. Especially the second game used to hold about as much relevance to the German gaming scene as Morrowind did!
Way ahead of their time, absolutely worth checking out.

Personally I'm quite skeptical of the remake - nothing good has come from this series ever since the third game far as I'm concerned - but fingers crossed.

I've tried playing the games in English a couple times before, but this is one of the rare cases for me where the usually awful German voice acting completely outclasses the localized ones.
I genuinely think it might be worth a listen over the English tracks even if you don't speak the language. I hear the Polish version is quite good as well.

Gothic, my sworn arch-enemy in video games. Alright, it's not THAT bad but boy do I have a few bones to pick with the series and the studio in general.

I found out about the series through my best friend raving about it so I had to give it a go and I'm not gonna lie, the games have a lot going for them. The setting, worldbuilding, characters and interacting with them are top-notch. It might be the first 3D world that felt alive on its own rather than something meant exclusively to cater to the player. Unfortunately it matters little in the face of two things that really suck:
1. Gameplay, or more specifically, the combat. Good lord is it bad. I hate how clunky it is with every fiber of my being. I know that your character gets a bit better at swinging weapons after you train with masters but there is no saving it imo. Even at the end of the game I never felt that my character became a swordmaster, I just brute forced my way through the sheer force of my stats.
2. The glitches and crashes. I only ever played the first 3 Gothics so maybe it got better later on but those first 3 games make Bethesda look like a competent studio. Yes, I said that and I meant it. These games are held together by duct tape and clown jizz, even with the hundreds of community-made bugfixes.

There is a lot to like about the series and I wish I could say I love it but to quote AVGN - 'What's the most important thing about a video game? Being able to fucking play it!' And Gothic fails hard in that regard imo.

I have tried one of the Risen games since and it doesn't seem like Piranha improved all that much. Great concept, horrible execution seems to be their motto. I feel like I'd harbor much less animosity toward their games if they were just crap but I so desperately want them to be good and they just aren't.

Did you fight it in a sword duel?
Yes. It glitched out and deleted my savefiles.

(Gothic 3 did me dirty like that once and I lost about 30 hours of gameplay. I was big mad)

the steam versions of gothic 1+2 have workshop support in their beta branch options. from there you can download a mod that adds gamepad support (as in real, native support, with full analog movement etc, not just an xpadder preset). makes them way more playable imo

I've always been interested in the Gothic franchise, haven't play it. But I have played the Risen games made "apparently" by the same people. Risen is more broken than Gothic and you have to play them on PC for the "best" experience but the worldbuilding is still great.

Gothic 1 and 2 were cool
I loved Risen 1 and 2 also. Piranha Bytes was the shit back in the day.

I can still remember the normal Gothic game he was just cool and very entertaining and the remake is supposed to come out soon and I'm looking forward to it. Do you still know it ? If so, tell us about your experiences with it.

i know the originals got ported to switch but yeah cant wait for the remake its looks good so far

Short version: The devs were laid off by Embracer group but the streamer Hand of Blood saved the project.
Longer short version: Cov bubble did burst + gamers are fed up by all the US political nonsense pushed by their activist devs and or algorithm and statistics driven development of games to maximize profit which is leading to the entire industry burning down but the game was saved last minute by a streamer.

Not played it, but I had chums in school who loved Gothic 2.
They've based opinions so I might dive in someday. The remake looks like a good starting point.

Played the demo and I wasn't particularly impressed with it. Since I'm a pretty big Gothic fan, though, I'll still play through it once it releases. Gothic 2 and Risen are two of my favorite "Eurojank" RPG's.

I've been playing through Risen, and immediately fell in love with it! The attention to detail is incredible, and the world feels so real.

Unlike Skyrim, where you play as the chosen one, in Risen you're just a regular dude who’s going to get his ass kicked for the first 5 to 10 hours. That makes progression feel incredibly rewarding.

I don’t think anyone else could create a game quite like Piranha Bytes.

What do you think of Piranha Bytes? Any stand out games from them or similar games from a different developer?

Yeah, I love Gothic 1 and 2 as well as Risen 1. Elex 1 was my my least favorite but still decent. Haven't played the others. I wanted to try Gothic 3 but I can't get it to run properly.

The Chronicles Of Myrtana: Archolosis a game built on Gothic 2 made by fans who understand what makes these games good.

There's also Drova - Forsaken Kin, which takes lots of inspiration from Piranha Bytes. The only let down is the writing isn't as high quality but it's still a good game.

Golden Gate 2: Goddess Heart is another game built on Gothic 2 but I haven't played this one. People on GOG seem to love it so I'll probably check it out eventually.
