Have you ever bought a game, knowing that it’s quality, and then for whatever reason that game becomes a waste of money?

This can apply to anything:
- buying the same game twice because you were excited for new hardware
- buying a game that is eternally in your backlog
- buying a game that, for whatever reason, you don’t really have a use for

Just, what are the good games that were a waste of your money?

For me, it’s Super Mario Maker 2. It’s a good game. I know it’s a good game. But four years had passed since SMM1 and I had grown to an age where the novelty had worn off. As a result, I was more bothered by the things Mario Maker 2 did wrong, rather than being content by the things it did right. It was $60 I’ll never get back fully, even after selling my copy.

I bought a second copy of Brigador. What can I say, I wanted them to have a little walkin' around money to get updates faster than the GOG version got them.

I just remembered that I am a man who owns, like, 15 copies of Sonic 1 or something?
- 1 copy on the Genesis
- 1 inside Sonic Jam
- 1 inside Classic Collection
- 1 inside Sonic Generations
- 1 inside Sonic Generations AGAIN but this time it’s on PC
- 1 inside Sonic x Shadow Generations
- 1 inside Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection
- 1 inside Sonic Origins
- 1 inside SEGA 3D Classics Collection
- 1 inside Sonic Mega Collection
- 1 iOS port
- 1 Steam port
- 1 hidden copy inside Sonic Gems Collection
- 1 inside Sonic Mega Collection Plus
- 1 on that terrible ATGames Genesis

Send help.

P.S.
we don’t talk about how many copies I have on different emulators for different systems. If we add all those in, we’re looking at, like, 20.

I bought into a clicker time waster dating sim just for completion sake as the in game currency does not allow you to get everything. It's probably my most shameful buy that it's the only hidden game I on my Steam account and I own HuniePop and it's various clones. Oh wait this is about good games so this hardly counts as a game. Let me come back to you on that.

I may or may not have bought a garbage visual novel game that gave easy achievements. It was only a dollar, but it took an unquantifiable amount of my humanity away.

I would say that was a waste of money.

thief: gold edition
cash money gamezors, but it did not run on my modern hardware no matter what i did

Not a waste if you enjoy it. ::winkfelix

Anyway, I've falsely bought Wo Long's DLC for different region and I couldn't access the content, I lost about $30 then.

Okay looking at the backlog 428: Shibuya Scramble is the biggest one. It was a great game but I rebought it on Steam to stream it after putting my PS4 in storage as well as a lot of memeable streaming games like FMAs that are so bad it's good quality and a few multiplayer games but my friends I would steam with no longer have time nor do I. There's also VNs I've bought that while I enjoy them I bought them more for preservation as they will not get DLC or all the seasons of every series (in fact they hold back on their biggest cash cow), they are very much overpriced even when on sale but I buy them and continue to buy them so I can still have them after their mobile serves go offline like they already did for one studio under their company.

All the fighting games ive bought on my switch. They pretty much have no online play and usually no rollback. I only buy them to have them physically atp since i own a pc now.

if i remember correctly, i think i just bought Metal Gear Solid 1 twice. one was the original and the other one was the integral version.

I bought a few games unnecessarily that I could have pirated, and I've bought a few games twice, but usually I did't regret those. What I DO regret, is buying Monster Hunter Rise twice. I bought a Switch SPECIFICALLY to play that game, which I did on release and I loved it. but then I ran out of content and left it there while I played other games. Later, it came out on Steam, and initially I didn't get it. But some friends of mine seemed to be into playing it when the expansion came out, so I bought the whole thing again with the Sunbreak expansion on Steam.... and didn't play it again because that was 200 hours of grinding I'd have to repeat.

It was only over a year later, after I had a falling out with the friend who was playing it, that I gave the game another chance, and holy shit I enjoyed it so much. Sunbreak is PEAK modern monster hunter, better than both World and Wilds in my eyes. Sadly, i also got tired of playing it on PC and felt like I should have just waited ot buy Sunbreak on the Switch instead. Which I might still do, again.

Heavy Rain on PS3.
Couldn´t get pass through the theethbrushing scene cus my controller lacks the sixaxis move sensors or something.
I really wanted to play it, on the other side I bought it cheap, so I don´t feel that bad.

Oh! I can share here! I bought Skyrim on PS3 for very cheap, back before the prices of PS3 games went up.

It was fun until the Bethesda on PS3 set in. Then it ran like total trash.

I regret that I spent money on Metal Gear Online 2. (The version that came with MGS:4)
Other than that, probably the PSP and Nintendo DS versions of Lunar. Neither of which I ever finished.
For the PSP version, I never made it past Meribia. The load times were a major annoyance from the beginning, but when I slowly loaded into an empty foyer and then slowly loaded into the main house, I just put the game away to collect dust.
For Lunar DS, I was toughing it out despite the many poor design choices but rage quit around the third time an enemy broke my equipment at the start of battle.

I guess Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid? It's not a bad game at all, but I suck at it and got absolutely destroyed by the CPU çwç

I think Borderlands on PS3 was that game for me.

I played it, I completed it, and I largely enjoyed it, but it was never my first choice for playing anything (either solo or with friends). It somehow became a really good footnote.

What an apt description for the series as a whole.

Getting Import versions of games on the Saturn, Dreamcast, PS1, PS 2 because I was too impatient to wait a month to a year for game to release in the US. Once I learned about importing and from where and reasons why it was over. "Oh it's out over there? Well, screw you waiting bull, I'm ordering now!" But the game will be in Japanese... "FUCK YOU! Language barrier? Sounds like an extra challenge for the game to me!"::angrygenjin

Bought Viewiful Joe 2 on the Gamecube new back then, never opened it. Never beat the first one, wanted to finish the first one, and just sorta forgot about it. Years later "Oh yeah, shit I forgot..."
Got the Devil May Cry Trilogy pack on PS2. Find out 3 is the prequel, "Ok, I'm gonna start with that." Never finished, left 1 and 2 unopened, same as above, kinda forgot about them.

Bought Samurai Spirits (Couldn't find a US AES copy) on the Neo Geo, played it for about 10 minutes, "OK, now where can I find 2 at?" and never played it again. It's literally the one Neo game I played least ever.

When I was buying Wii games, got copy of House of the Dead Overkill. Was taking too long, ordered another one, got 2 copies. Same with Resident Evil The Umbrella Chronicles, got 2 copies, open unopened.

Back when Hokuto No Ken came out on the PS 2, spend a fine penny being that none of the arcades near me had one, and there it is on PS 2. Express shipping bitch! NOW! USPS brought to me on a Sunday, wasn't expecting it and I had to go work at that shitty job before I could come home to play it.

Bought 3 Arcade 1ups of Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat II and Terminator 2. I know, not real arcade cabinets, but I'd always wanted real cabs, but I don't have the room in my house. It's the feeling I get playing on them is why.

Lul, making a list for this is an almost impossible task, especially since its objective af. i have over 1700 games on steam and at least 500 more on other digital storefronts on PC, ~1000 digital XBox games of all generations, 800+ digital PS games of all generations, ~50 digital Switch games and another 100 or so Nintendo games on Wii/U/3DS. Add another 1000~2000 physical copies for anything from the NES to the SeriesX on console and at least another 100 PC games. That kind of means that if youd think about 3 random ..Good Games.. i probably ..wasted.. money on at least one of them in one of the ways you described.

Skyrim is a big offender for me in that Case I bought it 4 Times, the Normal Edition on p3 and then later the Special Edition with all DLC for the Ps3,and then later for the Ps4 as they promised Mod Support wich was a scam, and I also bought it on PC for Mods but my PC can barely handle it and since I installed Mods it can't even boot anymore.Well I also bought Sims 3 4 Times (NDS,WII,Ps3,PC) I regret buying the WII version.
I also now have Oblivion on 3 different Systems(Ps3,PC,XBOX360). I prefer the PC Version. There is probably more but I can't think of any right now.Oh well all Sims4 DLC felt like a waste of Money to me as I bought a couple and the game still feels incomplete.(I have no Pets/No Seasons).I also find it wasteful that I spend Money once on how was the game Called Baldurs Gate the Online Game I mean (for Character slots).
