Back on like 2013 I bought a broken DS, and after so many years Im close to have it functional (just after I fix its touch screen, the x button decided to bail out), buts thats a topic for another day.

What I would like to know if what games are worth a try. More than the obvious ones like Mario DS, and even considering Visual Novels, which I gladly discover to be perfect for the DS format.

At the moment, I have my R4 with many games but my favorites have become:

- Metroid Prime Hunters: sadly maybe the only FPS that doesnt use the stylus and has an arena with bots
- Phantasy Star Zero: good action RPG, didnt expect it to be this good
- Trackmania DS: Just pure addiction
- Tetris DS: what can I say, I love tetris
- Orcs and Elves: Im just starting but I really liked Doom RPG 1 and 2, so it is good to see it on a nice format
- Suzumiya Haruhi no Chokuresu: Like, just chef kiss. Never thought VN would fit the DS so well, so Im getting Hotel Dusk and try it.

Any suggestion? Any obscure or even homebrew stuff Im missing? For example, Im now looking into see if Fate (the VN) has been ported to the DS. I read a guy did it partially, but that was a while ago.

thanks!

Best point-and-click ever made.

Edit- It's only got a fan translation, never mind. I don't think the physical game would play on your DS (might be region locked) so I choose this instead:

Ghost Trick Phantom Detective.
C.O.P.: The Recruit.
Dementium.
Contact.
Radiant Historia.
7th Dragon.
Touch Detective.

If you're going to try "Hotel Dusk", give a chance to this one as well (and to Hotel D. sequel)

If you want to draw Okami's spells on ds, please don't miss this one (at least try it)

And if you want two nice rpgs, I recommend:

To add to what everyone else will recommend, here's another link to /v/'s Recommended Games wiki.

If you like VNs, you may like the Ace Attorney series. You're playing as a defense attorney trying to find contradictions in witness testimony, then use evidence to hopefully clear your client's name. Is goofy at times, but it also has some mysticism to it.

Personal recs:
The three Castlevanias
Chrono Trigger
Contact
Custom Robo Arena
Elite Beat Agents
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates
Final Fantasy Tactics A2
Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure

Both Kingdom Hearts games
Kirby Super Star Ultra
Luminous Arc
Lunar Knights

Both Mario & Luigi games
Mega Man Zero Collection & ZX & ZX Advent
Meteos
New Super Mario Bros.
Peggle Dual Shot
Planet Puzzle League
Pokemon HeartGold / SoulSilver

Both Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games (Blue Rescue Team, Explorers of Sky)
Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor
Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey
SNK VS Capcom: Card Fighters DS
Sonic Rush
Sonic Rush Adventure
Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume
The World Ends with You

I missed a great many titles since I haven't played them much/yet, but the DS had a solid library.

here is a list of games i love, or have heard good things about, i hope that helps

Solatorobo - DSi optimized game, but it works fine on a DS lite
NinjaTown - Tower Defense with cute graphics
Tokyo Beatdown - a Beat Them All that's kinda fun
From the Abyss - it's not the best game ever made, but it's still fun to kill some time
Final Fantasy The 4 Heroes of Light - this game is awesome
Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure - i don't know how to describe this one, but this is a fun game
Contact - interesting game developped by Grasshopper Manufacture and made by an ex dev of Moon RPG
Infinite Space - i haven't played it myself, but i heard it's really good
Kingdom Hearts Re-Coded - while the story isn't very interesting, the gameplay is really awesome
Nanashi no Geemu - haven't played it either but i heard it's one of the best horror game on the console
Theresia - Dear Smile - haven't played it, it's a Horror visual novel (i think ?) it looks kinda awesome
Nostalgia - haven't played it, it's a jrpg but with sky pirates i think ? it looks cool

as for Fate on the ds you can play it, some people have ported it and it's not hard to install at all, but last time i tried my DS kept frozing after a while, but i think that's a problem with my SD card.

Resident Evil: Deadly Silence
Front Mission ds
Final Fantasy Tactics A2
Trauma Center: Under the Knife
Tomodachi Collection
Hotel Dusk

Trackmania DS
Wow! I never thought I'd run into a fellow fan!

I recommend... "Izuna: Legend Of An Unemployed Ninja" (both of them), the Dragon Quest series and, of course, some very well-made Pokemon hacks such as "Moon Black 2".

What is left to say that hasn't been recommended already, the DS library is so full of nice things.

I can add the Inazuma Eleven trilogy for some fire soccer RPGs, the Digimon World games for a very unique experience and the Castlevania trilogy since it's excellent.

Maybe a couple Super Robot Wars games if ya can stomach some cool robots and crazy plots. :]

Can't believe no one mentioned these 2, but the gen V Pokemon games are highly recommended.
In addition, there is also The Dragon Quest games, 4, 5, 6, and 9 on the DS, as well as Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon and New Mystery. There are also D pad patched games which can be played, I believe Good Vibes Gaming has a list of them which are alongside their remastering DS games for 3ds Video.
There is also Osu tatekae Ouendan, which is an alternative verion of Elite Beat with differing games and graphics, as well as Warioware and the Rhythm series.

Edit: There's also Lunar Knights, though the DS minigames are made a bit harder in the US version.

Last edited:
Tetris DS
Picross DS and Picross 3D
Bangai-O
Castlevania Order of Ecclesia (try to find a save file with hard mode unlocked)
New Super Mario Bros.
Any Shiren the Wanderer game
Ghost Trick
Plant Vs. Zombies
All Trauma Center Games
Any Puyo Puyo Game

Patched:

Does Elite Beat Agents count as "less obvious"? It's a classic among the DS lineup and a precursor (along with Osu Ouendan) the Osu desktop game
