SNES library as far as RPGs go was great, their first party games were industry leading and untouchable, but the hardware itself was and still is a bad joke that ruled over the industry.
I don't know if you want to debate or try to be a contrarian (if not kinda have some revisionism about gaming history considering how proficient the SNES was, even post-PSX launch) but if you want to talk about a hardware that made it hard for people to make games on you should've chosen the Sega Saturn or even PS3 during its early days.
Regardless of the intrinsic specs of a console what matters in the end are the games and the quality of its library. Even if the Wii was an underpowered Standard Definition console it still has brought innovative and memorable games in various ways.
The SNES is a great system even if it's CPU is a little fucked, not like the other systems of the time didn't have their own unique shortcomings. This is a very wild thing to say on a retro gaming focused forum

The library was good. The hardware was convoluted shit compared to the competition. I was a Nintendo fanboy first above any platform from 1985 until 2000.
The hardware was dog shit. It was hugely popular, influential, whatever you want to call it. It's hardware still objectively sucks.
The PC Engine also still is a heavy hitter for RPGs and was a leading platform in Japan, yet here you are trying to make a point about me being contrarian, in a PC Engine thread, after you claiming "As for the PC Engine the small issue is that despite it being powerful for its time I don't see plenty of iconic games that are remembered by many nor games that changed gaming with their innovative game design. I guess that, like the Neo Geo, it's mostly a console made for a niche audience with a more restricted list of game genres (I can't recall many RPGs on either of them)."
I'm not going to laugh my ass off too much, but maybe a little bit here. The thing had the best all time classic Castlevania, better Shmups than even Sega had available, It had the Bonk games, Bomberman 93 and 94 were better than the other platforms, 94 even got ported as Mega Bomberman. Nectaris, Galaga 88, Ys Book I & II and Dragon Slayer Legend of Heroes were insane compared to the other platform's RPGs.
The PCE like the Sega Saturn, is a gold mine of Japanese games nobody in the west got to play. A leading platform that never took off outside of Japan.
SNES won, it had the games, nobody is disputing that. It was the worst of that generation as far as having good hardware is concerned. Nintendo was cheap and they were ruthless toward the industry.
Don't go down the path of arguing "revisionism", since it's nonsense. Nintendo's diehard fans have been arguably brainwashed and hauling ass all across the internet spreading nonsense about them being perfect, outright inventing new things or being groundbreaking for decades. Most of these fans are completely wrapped up in their security blankets, cherishing their childhood best-friend Nintendo Corporation. Figuratively jumping in front of bullets to save the sanctity of Mario's honour, while constantly shitting on Sega, Atari, whoever. It's ridiculous. Nintendo made good games, their hardware is usually cheapskate cobbled together bullshit.
One of these days I'd like to get a PC-Engine. It stands out to me as one of the more unique consoles of the generation, It's always been a console that's piqued my curiosity since I was younger... I remember seeing the TurboGrafx-16 section on the Wii Shop Channel and always being confused by what it was and how it was important. Cratermaze and New Adventure Island were the ones I found the most interesting of the catalog available there at the time, but I never got to play any of them.
16 pages of the first issue of Gekkan PC Engine is dedicated to a full-on walkthrough of R-Type I & II. Goes to show you how big the shooting game craze was at the time.
(I'm not gonna post them all, but here's the intro to each section)

I've spent months with a friend from Tokyo translating the game and we know people with the ability to implement text into these old titles. While they are quite new to it, the hope is that it will be doable. We are reaching out to more people to get more help with that task! Regardless, our next step is to dub all the audio. I've already gotten several people onboard this project, but we are still looking for more people to join us!
The article does not mention who is implementing the text, that is the recent development and is probably the reason they feel confident in attempting the patch now.
That reminds me I'll have to do the Sega CD version.
On a side note I'm blessing Mesen for making me able to properly play PC Engine CD games, for some reason the "pure PC Engine" emulators couldn't play games outside of HuCard ones.
I'm surprised how much could be put inside a phone card shape whereas even up to the N64 cartridges were bulky.
I like how elegant and modern looking the Duo-R still looks
To think that this modular console had a built-in CD player in its upgraded version whereas modern consoles are actually removing peripherals with their Pro versions is kinda sad.
