So for not having checked in, in a while, ive thought of something to ask and well... ive been hooked to monster hunter lately again but im in a bit of a ditch
Citra for having been shut down and also even community-dev wise was not being updated anymore kiiinda makes MH3U,4U and Generations struggle and uh... has anyone heard of possible emulators that "could" be a thing to look at (ive seen Lime3DS already and thats in-development atm but keeping an eye on their github)

It's still Citra or bust. Anything new being worked on, I mean why would anyone let it be known until they're finished with it, otherwise Nintendo will be on them like a simp on OnlyFans

There are certain performance driven forks that are alive and well, of which I suggest Mandarine. There is also a combination forks in development that combines better code from several existing forks, but it has no ETA.

Also there are performance improving cheats that are both absolutely necessary (3U) and very good (4U and GU).

There is backup version of Lime3ds try it
https://github.com/Lime3DS/lime3ds-archive/releases

and also there is new emulator coming soon called Azahar Emulator
Azahar is an upcoming collaboration between Lime3DS and PabloMK7's Citra fork.
funnily enough Azahar is the one ive been keeping an eye on because of Lime3DS (had to make double sure that i had both Lime and the github for Azahar bookmarked :p)
but that backup version of Lime3DS im guessing is even for "as finished as possible" an alternative?

I wanna work out mobile emulation but the emus I found were dodgy and a friend already recced a FE game for NDS so I’m playing that instead ?

The name of this project is Azahar if you are interested in checking it out :3

Also there are two projects that are not citra based: Mikage and Panda3ds but they are still in early development as far as i know.

ive kinda had an eye on mobile emulation but honestly if i look for any of that id rather stick to GB,GBC,GBA and such (possibly also DS tbf) but 3DS is imo one of the consoles id rather have on PC emued just for simplicity (besides if i work on my 3DS XL now id probably have to fix a few things and somehow mod the system aaand... im honestly not prepared for any of that x.x)

Mobile emulation is really easy, delta is great for nes, snes, n64, gb, gbc, gba and NDS, it’s multi system and really smooth and has no issues. Hopefully it benefits you in some way, cheers ?

Manadrine's what I use. It works great. Haven't had a single problem or game not work.

so just to mention as a heads up, thanks for the mentions and uh so far ive grabbed last published version of lime3ds and mandarine to see if maybe one of those works a tad bit better for me (worst case i have to hold off on 3DS Emu due to my PC but eh it is what it is :p)

I still use Citra and Lime3DS. IME the main bottleneck for 3DS performance is shader and texture caching, that always happen during gameplay, sometimes leading to glitches or hiccups the first time the level loads depending on the game. To alleviate the issue make sure it's on a SSD, you could also find caches online for a few games and unzip those files in the game folder. There's instructions on how to do it here.

If you have a VR headset, you could also set the stereoscopic mode and use openVR/SteamVR and Virtual Desktop or Desktop+. There's also a port of Citra for mobile oculus headsets called CitraVR. You could also use anaglyph mode and cheap red and cyan glasses. Can't go more retro than that. Some of those games really use perspective tricks to showcase their 3D, it's very trippy.

Just to reiterate, don't ignore performance enhancing cheats, they remove effects thst make emulation sluggish. 3U also has improper framerate cap detection on Citra and you need a cheat for proper functionality.

well considering the server thing just now ive wanted to reply to this but uh... about performance improving cheats i had looked into them and the 60fps cheats were breaking animations and monsters so ive kinda wanted to stay away from them primarily (at least after having looked into those when i was trying to fix citra to play 3U and 4U, havent touched Gen yet because kiiinda was more into 3U and 4U)

Here's the performance enhancing cheats for all 3DS MH games plus some QoL codes.
You want the 30FPS codes not 60fps. I played all the MH games with these and had no problems.

3U doesn't have proper game logic for 60 FPS, I advise you don't use it. The cheat is to lock 30 and stay stable, as it should (otherwise it will try to render infinite FPS and slow to a crawl)

No, XX is the Japanese version of GU. It was Japan only on 3DS but fans backported the translation.

Yeah, definitely. I can vouch for the quality of the translation. Even the monster intro cut-ins are in English in the latest version (3.1)

Honestly I wish there was a way to make pseudo 3D effects without helmet..

Completely off topic, but you could use some cross-eyed mode in Citra but it requires training.
