I’ve always had a fascination with myths, above all gaming ones. Share your favourites, ones you believe, ones you don’t, ones that turned out to be true, etc.

Personally I believed in lavender town syndrome; if you’re unfamiliar it’s a hoax that the lavender town song had a frequency that only children could hear. Leading to children committing suicide.

I was fascinated with the Lumiose City Ghost; I’d binge watch videos on it. Still really wish there was more to it.

My mind was blown during the Gardenia gym fight in platinum, I didn’t know about Pokémon changing forms so when I encountered Cherrim I thought I came across a new secret Pokémon; I only knew about it’s sun form thus I was completely baffled by its overcast form.

The Sims is ripe with mystery, such as what happened to Bella Goth, what ever is up with the Specter family, the tragic clown is honestly one of my favourites; Along with the unnecessarily scary robbery music. I personally got really freaked out when the social worker came and took my sims baby because I couldn’t figure out how to feed them; Same with the Repo-man, I had no idea what was happening so I got really freaked out.

(The sims 1 prank calls are also notable)

I didn’t know that the baby grilling thing was a mod so I believed that EA straight up let you eat your babies

I was part of the panic around the John Doe hacking on Roblox; I told my sister to not play on the day that the hacking was supposed to happen, I genuinely thought she would actually get hacked.

I’ve mentioned before but I believe that in the Spores that there was a limited number of planets (aka saves) , that one day I’d run out of planets because I often restarted. It gave me a lot of paranoia. The sea monster freaked me out, but it also added a thrill to me, I’d constantly try to fly out as far as I could wanting to see what was out there.

I was a fool who believed in Waluigi for Mario 64 DS. I played that version first, played it as a dumb kid. and was CHRONICALLY online at that age. I remember WWWario (a YouTuber) making a bunch of videos about the topic back then that I watched a bunch and got me to believe it.

I was also a believer in the "Luigi's Mansion was originally so dark and gritty you guys!" stuff for a while. Most gaming hoaxes only spread so far because kids and teens are young and dumb. So young and so dumb that they don't fact check even if they can because they WANT to believe rumors. Especially if it's something they feel is missing from one of their favorite games.

there's a lot of them out there. i saw some people making up some in a comments about mario 64 ds.
"get all of the stars and then shoot into one of the castle walls outside to enter a secret room to find waluigi."
there was "L is real" in mario 64, unlock sonic and tails in melee. there's one game that deletes itself after you play it once.
ben drowned.
there's way more than i can remember,

I know about the Mew under that one truck in the earlier Pokemon games.
That's possible with some rom hacks now. Same goes for bringing General Leo back from the dead (Final Fantasy VI) and saving Aeris from Sephiroth (FF7). In the long run, there will be no myths; only different versions of the game.

I lived off of those “Top ten scary things in video games 💀💀💀” , and listened to creepy pasta readings. I contemplated mentioning Ben Drowned and Herobrine(others too), but I didn’t actually believe in them so I decided against it.

OH! One I just remembered as you posted this is that I unironically believed this video was real as a dumb ten year old.

How? I genuinely have no clue aside from: I wanted it to be true, so I willed it to be so in my own head.

That FFVI hack may be something I want to play at some point. Love FFVI and I loved Leo.

The Sims was a bit eerie in the first two installments. The attention to details if you were actually looking for lore was something else.

I've watched a ton for some reason, but I will never forget how weird but at the same fascinating some of these GTA hoaxes were

Like these ones for example

I remember the Diablo Cow Level hoax. Even at the time it seemed too silly to be real. Clearly Blizzard thought so too so first they referenced it in Starcraft and then they made it real in the sequel.

I fell for the sonic and tails EGM april fools. In my defense, I am very gullible by nature, was 13, and only used internet for aim at the time (why do you think I was reading gaming magazines?) so I had no idea what photoshop was. Also, friend of mine got mad at ME because they actually did the challenge when I told them about it. Thanks EGM :(

We had a couple way back when that never made print anywhere. Hell, they probably never made it past my school and neighborhood. One was that you could get so many points in Super Mario Bros that you had to take the cartridge out and flip it over to get more levels, but it only worked once you had however many points it was supposed to be. Another was that a local video store had a porno Super Mario game that was identical to SMB1 until you beat 8-4, then in the room with the real princess, there was also a bed and a sex scene ensued. Some kid swore he played it, we had no way to debunk it, so it ran for awhile.

Getting to drive the ambulance in Silent Hill is the first one that comes to mind. I don't even know how it started, just wild speculation and people being willing to say anything I guess. I don't remember all the details, but it involved driving the ambulance that sat next to Alchemilla Hospital. And by driving I mean like, literally driving around the town in it. Not to stroke my own dick, but I always thought it was complete bullshit, but it was still fun to think about. Just found this page while looking for an image of the ambulance, apparently there's way more to it than I remembered, interesting.

Another I remember was being able to unlock Akuma as a playable character in Resident Evil 2. I hadn't played any of the RE games at the time so I didn't know how likely something like that was. At least there was a supposed screenshot of it to fuel the fire. Sounds like it would have been a nightmare to try and get judging by that Gaming Urban Legends Wiki. I get the feeling that site is going to turn into a rabbit hole for the next day or two...

this reminds me of Yuriofwind's best segment on his channel: BullShit CreepyPasta Storytime
YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Finally! Another person who knows that series and also knows how peak it was!
Well, perhaps not "peak" but fun.

There was one Animal Jam creepypasta about a bunch of players getting stuck in the diamond shop, they kill each other for some reason I don’t remember why. There was also one about Wally from Pokémon dying and fucking with the player. Pretty classic creepypasta shenanigans

i almost misread this sentence. i almost skipped over the word "with". that sentence would have a entirely different meaning.
