Gaming trends that should've been normalized.

Compression should be relearned. You're telling me that you can't make a 100+ gigabyte game a little smaller. Even bringing 100 down to 80 would be good.

Selling complete games. Dlc and microtransactions are cancer.
Have the games in working order too. There's wayyy to many games shipping out with game breaking bugs just because the companies know they can shoot out a patch the next day.

When I buy a game it should be in a playable state, not a 'It'll get better in a year after 1,000 updates'

I really liked how prominent “quick saving” was during the DS and PSP era — the idea that you could make an immediate save file that would let you pick up exactly from where you left off, no matter where you were in the game, in exchange for you stopping right there. With games becoming bigger and more complex, it’s really made immediately stopping them and coming back to right where you were more difficult and tedious.

I think some Switch games still kinda do this, but they all should. THEY ALL SHOULD

Rebinding controls.

I know I can do it externally, in some cases. But was it too much to include the in-game option?
Bayonetta series is infamous for this. You can only choose the pre-made layouts.

Cheats codes, whatever happened to those? The perfect option for accessibility, or to goof around.

Level/difficulty select from the start. If someone already beaten a game and don't feel like doing so again, let them have options like that.
Or how about "unlock everything from start" option? Anyone can download 100% save file. Or new game plus?
They were used as debug tools so there’s no purpose in having them anymore.

Separate, specific sliders for audio controls. I don't know what's going on in some of these audio editing rooms but sound level normalization isn't guaranteed and some SFX or characters are very loud. A master volume slider might be easier to code but it sucks when you're trying to fix the audio engineer's nonsense.

Shout out to Sonic Adventure for obnoxiously loud ocean sounds and Skyrim for making Lucien Lachance's ghost-voice so absurdly loud, he drowns out all conversation within his range.

Games that have dialogue boxes and simultaneous dialogue should ALWAYS have the (optional) auto-forward function that games like modern Persona games have. It’s such a good QoL of life feature and helps me pay attention to the dialogue way better.

Also this 100%
I hate when you can’t separate sound effect and ambiance, because I always want to max out ambiance, but not the loud explosions and shouts.
