Depends on the game, the state of my controller (plugged or unplugged), game compatibility (although steam input does a lot of heavy lifting), my mood, the state of the moon ?
Both. For most games I will use my 360 controller. If I'm playing an FPS or anything without controller support, mouse and keyboard it is, though I've been straying away from the latter ever since my wrist started acting up months ago.
For me it depends entirely on the game's type. I will use KB/M just fine unless:
- It is a 3D game with independent camera controls (requires analog movement for precision).
- It is a fighting game (you would need a mechanical keyboard to prevent rollover lockout).
Controller for basically everything except more PC-centric genres like RTS and MOBAs. When it comes to FPS I will use pad for most games that aren't hardcore arena FPS like Quake or hardcore tactical FPS like Counter-Strike or Valorant.
90% of the time I use a controller. I used to use mouse & keyboard a lot more, but I have carpal tunnel in both my wrists and M&K tends to make my hands go numb now. Boo. The only time I use M&K are in FPS games that I learned to play on it (like Valve games) or FPS games that don't have particularly good (if any) controller support. Mostly old games in that case (System Shock 2, my love). I'll also use M&K for RTS and MOBA games, though I don't play much of those genres. Overall, I'd love to use M&K more, but I just don't have a good time when my hands are numb and/or feel like they're on fire. x)
