GameStop in 2000s vs. 2020s

Hey my friend, I also think that geek stores in general are all the same, there is no difference anymore.
I once had a dream to open my own gaming store in high school, none the less "Rare And Popular Electronics" was one of the worst business titles I ever thought of.

My dream was to have a shelf full of original DVDs. I never had an original DVD, I only had pirated ones.My childhood dream was to have a 3DS, but it was too expensive in my neighboring country. I didn't have any, so I didn't care because it went off the market after the Game Boy Advance.

I hope the future smiles upon you and grants you fulfillment. 😊

Thank you, you are new to our community of affection, have you already played Minecraft the first versions?
Not really new, just took a little of time off to sort out life stuff. I've been around since last year. I used to play those first versions in highschool, back when we had spare time in class. The last thing I built was a skyscraper made from glass.

I miss the days of walking into gamestop with $10 and being able to buy something good. Those bins filled with retro 8 and 16bit games were epic

Did you know that nowadays you can play Minecraft in reality? The new versions are good for those who want to play, they have new mobs and everything

I did not know that, is it to do with minecraft lego? Or did someone finally build a minecraft theme park?
Like, I saw in the recent updates that there's even a Laxolotl, I don't know if you're playing the new versions, there's this character along with copper stuff, which is the new ore that was added together. With other new features that allow you to play Minecraft in virtual reality

I have to repurchase it at somepoint, I enjoyed playing it a lot but i neglected to migrate my account to the new platform. Playing it in virtual reality sounds very soothing, the concept of being able to actually pretend to live in the bases you make make me happy.

I let my Pro membership lapse that I bought to get more trade-in value on some duplicates I traded in because my local Gamestop stores barely have any games anymore. They give you a $5 coupon every month but there's nothing to buy unless you like Funkos and other garbage.

I remember back in the early 2000s going to the Software Etc. (before it was (of course) bought up by GameStop) in the mall. It was a town away but it was always fun to go when I was there considering there was no real game store in the town I grew up in.

One thing I remember was that I could talk to the manager and even other employees about stuff. They had a pretty good repertoire of gaming knowledge. Nowadays when I go into GameStop it's like they have very little knowledge about prior eras of gaming. Sucks but it is what it is.

Also, like pretty much everyone here, I like the first picture from the early 2000s. Looks Like like an actual specialty/niche product store instead of a generic catch all gift shop.

It makes sense, that's their company name: GameStop. They stopped selling games.
They've gone from GameStop to StopGame.

Thank god we have a legion of insufferable Reddit stock market nerds keeping Gamestop afloat
