GameStop declares the end of the Console Wars

The console wars have been dead for me since I owned a Playstation 2, GameCube, and an Xbox. The best of all three worlds.

"The system is mine! Your IP's and exclusives are no longer your own!"

It is a funny post ngl, but if you told me that PlayStation was going to win the console war back in 2008-2009, I would have just laughed.

A pity to be sure, I really hope someone else comes ready give Sony a run for their money. Nobody actually benefits from not competition.

And yes, even if exclusives werent exactly short-term beneficial for players, in the long run it where, because if forced hardware companies to invest in new and better ways to compete withe their rivals. A good example is Killzone, a really not that great, not that bad fps from the PS2, it should have been canned and move to another IP. But Sony needed something to compete to Halo so they give a green light to the sequel that was amazing.

Always felt that the Console Wars died off during the PS2/GC/Xbox Era where it started to become more about the third party games and less about the first party games available later in the life of those consoles. Call of Duty and Battlefield really cemented that during PS3/360 era.

I'm all in on Steam Machines. A fremont box with a new steam controller needs to show up. Give it a discrete GPU bump and support external ones. Let's fucking go.

Xbox was my preferred console for decades, but the same old obfuscation and bullshit around the marketing, the rumor of the next platform going from it maybe being a PC running an Xbox app with ported BC, to actually being more like a locked down Xbox Series upgraded console running Windows desktop in a secondary mode you break out into, it all just sucks to think about.

Needing to kick One and Series consoles into paywalled developer mode is a slow and tedious pain in the ass. Them cracking down on the same apps that got through their store on retail mode, disabling them is just another pain in the ass and a fuck you to their customers.

I never saw it as a console war, but rather as options, and you choose the one you like best, and you decide whether to stick with the same company or switch, just like with other brands.

Same, Steam Deck is a amazing device and would be open to a home entertainment system. They really improved linux gaming with proton.

I used to be Xbox / Windows person, kinda moved on since 2020. I got sick of bloat, spying and Microshafts fuckery. I would never buy one of their future handhelds, it will be locked down + ads.

They released so close to each other, that seemed so crazy at the time. The Game Boy wasn't far off from then either, at least all in the US. I like that this might be the only time some of these characters graced a magazine cover, heh

The Legendary Axe guy vs Ax Battler is an interesting faceoff because that might be the only one the Turbografx-16 side can win. I like Golden Axe but LA is great. Different types of games, though.

I might take Side Arms over the Genesis version of Forgotten Worlds too.

I really like the guy from Zoom! being on the cover. Zero business being on there. "Come on BOY"
