Games you're surprised you like

I really well and truely believed that I was going to be junk at psychonauts. Platforming games are not my strong point especially ones on a 3d plane. (Growing up, I found the spyro games on gba confusing and had a hard time following rayman) But i had a friend rave at me to try it at the right time a steam sale was on and I figured that for the price I got it for, I might as well try it even if I sucked. When I first played it, I genuinely freaked out because I didnt get the hang of navigating the overworld straight away. I'm glad I gave it more of a try because I started to get sucked right in to the world and game play. I went from total deepend newbie that failed so many jumps to the conqueror of the meat circus. (Don't ever ask me to do that level again) I immediatly bought the second one straight after and proudly finished that one too.

I played that Shantae Risky Revolution game recently. It's a pretty good game.

Persona 4 and 5. I use to avoid jrps cause most of them are turn based, but at the insistence of a friend I played persona 5 and I liked its story, art style, characters and soundtrack, everything... except its combat (nothing a "one hit kill" cheat couldnt fix"). Then I played persona 4 and was even better. I was very doubtful that I would like these games, but they did.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. I generally do not like Fromsoftware Souls games. I appreciate the heck out of their world, mood and stuff, but the games itself I cannot get into. The pacing and requirement for patience, timing and precision is a combination that makes me impatient, screw up, and get mad whenever I tried Dark Souls and such. Sekiro on other hand, I cleared through 5 times with a platinum trophy at the end, something I scarcely do for games.

Days Gone. Aside not being really into modern west mega games, and really not being into open world games I did not expect much from Days Gone. Instead, I enjoyed the heck out of it and ended up clearing it with a platinum trophy, as well, which again, I rarely do even for games I like.

Also Metal gear solid i was looking for a game to play and happened to remember metal gear solid so i tried it and damn it surprised me , i thought kojima was just some overrated dude but he deserves the praise after i played Metal gear solid the telecom was it called? Was so cool the fact that when you load the game it gives you a short summary of what happened in the game session before just DAMN and psycho mantis do i need to say more?

Also chrono cross glad i was patient with it lovely game

the fact that the dragons turn out to be using you all along was a huge WHAT? the fact that kid is schala and the fact that they didn't forget about schala and continued her story +the way that they expand the world and make it so that there is other threats to the time line we created back in chrono trigger is really good

the fighting took me a while to understand but when i got the hang of it (at hour 30-35) it was really good! The music has many throwbacks to chrono trigger the home world music is another version of that theme you hear when you get close to melchoir house in chrono trigger or the boat music being robo theme but adjusted a little , the game says you are a "silent protagonist" but that's just a lie you talk all the time as evident by people responses

Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Valhalla.
I was never a fan of Assassin's Creed really, but I had wanted an adventure game in ancient Greece since I was a kid, and boy did it deliver one, and the scifi stuff that I didn't like from AC is toned down alot or focused on other points, so it was way easier for me to get into them. I also like open world action RPGs in general. I got Valhalla because of how much I liked Odyssey, and even though I don't like it as much I still very much enjoyed my time with it.

They're both absolutely gigantic though, and I'm still not finished with them, but I'm almost done with Valhalla.

I was playing Super Robot Wars 30 and it put me in a mecha-mood, so I tried a bunch of Gundam games on a whim for the past couple days. I stumbled on MS Saga: a Gundam-licensed JRPG for the PS2. Now, I've played JRPGs based on licensed properties before, so I didn't have high hopes since those usually leave a bad/boring taste in my mouth. That said, the game is kind of blowing me away. The story is okay and some of the character designs are... unique, but the combat is challenging and the customization is crazy good; I guarantee MY team of mobile suits wont look like or play like YOUR team of mobile suits.

So right now I'm kind of excited that I have this little niche and underappreciated JRPG that I can spend some quality time with.

I definitely recommend it if you’re curious. Of course, it’s got a lot of boring AAA schlock stuff thrown in there, but for some reason it was easy for me to just focus on the things I enjoyed with it.

I just couldn't bring myself to hate MVCI, gameplay-wise at least.
I like the active switching and Venom is really fun to play in this game.
It's FAR from a good game, but I can sort of accept it for what it is, shades of "what could have been", I guess.

devil may cry 2. it has its faults but it still has a lot of cool stuff too. i like a lot of the art and visual designs of the different levels and enemies and they have some cool ideas for dante. its just that execution needed more work. its really an uncooked game.

both games has many flaws and the graphic is not the best compare to other game of that era
but i like the design of the levels in the game

puzzle quest challenge of the warlords
i am not mutch for puzzle games but this one i did find was fun to play

The Tekken series. Since it was my brother than introduced it to me, I thought that it would be another of these boring games he played. He first showed me the ps1 Tekkens, with the scary graphism and I was not hooked at all. But then we played Tekken 4, and 5 and I thought, "maybe it's not that bad". Then I did the story mode for my favorites characters and discovered Tekken's goofy endings

I was never a fan first person RPGs like dungeon crawlers for a while. Even stuff like Dragon Quest wasn't up to my interest because I like seeing my party to some degree. Then I picked up Etrian Odyssey and fell in love with the blober style dungeon crawler. It helped opened up my interest to more kinds of RPGs. That said, I am glad I picked up Etrian Odyssey first instead of something like Class of Heroes. I like CoH, but it feels like a lesser Etrian Odyssey in terms of party building. Which was what helped me learn to love the format. Either way, I'm not turned off by first person RPGs now cause of EO.
