Games you thought deserved a sequel or another entry?

Definitely Legend of Dragoon!

Also... maybe Strife. The story concluded nicely and all, but the team proved time and again that they had the talent to make something beautiful. It would have been amazing seeing them develop their craft further.

- Transformers Devastation: ended in a post credit cliffhanger cutscene
- Transformers Fall of Cybertron: ended in a cliffhanger ending
We need to know what happens next ?, curse you Activision

Ah that game was good, I remember getting it from those magazines that came with CDs.

Shining Force!
It's criminal that this series just disappeared right when it really hit its stride with the third game(s).

Oh and another non-metroidvania Strider would be sick as well!
(I liked that metroidvania just fine, but it really is a completely different experience)

Also Thief! But like, another actual Thief, not whatever the hell that reboot was.
A year or two ago some fans actually released an absolutely incredible mod campaign for the original Thief: The Black Parade. That project really showcased just how much gas was still left in that particular tank.

  • Mysterious Mursame Castle - Big N drops so many references to it in other games (Smash, Captain Rainbow, etc) but the most we got of it was a rerelease on the E-shop. It's weird that a game built on the original Zelda engine is near abanadoned. Speaking of which...
  • StarTropics did get one sequel, but it's been ages since then. It's probably ignored mainly because it's an NOA game, and thus doesn't hold as much value to the JP office, but that's not much of an excuse.
  • ActRaiser - The 2nd game was a pale imitation of the 1st, lacking the world building aspect. The remake added little, which was just a mid tower defense mode. It'd be great to see a sequel with a more advanced world building mode, as that was the part of the game everyone loved.
  • For that matter, Quintet games in general. Squeenix has a great back catalog from Enix's old partners that they shouldn't ignore.
  • Chrono Trigger is a weird one to not get a sequel. There are few games with such a strong following that have so few entries in its series. Not to mention, we never got a direct sequel, as the others involved alternate dimensions and timelines with all-new casts.
  • Sega is sleeping on a lot of stuff, such as Kid Chameleon, Ristar, and so on. Hopefully they'll consider more of their back catalog with their new initiative.
On an unrelated note, I wish we got more games in the side-scrolling 2D horror genre, ala Clock Tower. The genre hit its peak on the PS1, got a few more entries here and there after (such as Tokyo Twilight Busters on DS), then just disappeared.

Where's my Red Steel 3 ?

And my Mad World 2 ? ?

Know what ? Give me Anarchy Reigns 2 and all is forgiven.

Come ON, Capcom!!! The children crave tiny gachapon robots engaging in 3D combat!!

For games that are series but that have just sort of been abandoned my first thought was Daytona. I've only played the first one on Xbox 360 Arcade but it's such a gem. Probably the loudest game ever. I would have said Fantasy Life if it weren't for the fact that Level 5 finally confirmed a sequel last (or was it 2023?) year.
Another sort of weird wish is NBA/FIFA Street. I don't like most sport simulator games, but the arcade-y ones are almost always excellent. EA Sports Big had a good thing going back then.

For games I wish would get s sequel it's Ever Oasis from the 3DS. Lovely little gem.

Gun.Smoke, I'm amazed that Capcom was initially involved with Red Dead Revolver, let it go, and then just never went back to cowboy stuff. They didn't even need to make another Red Dead, but it has somehow been overlooked outside of the original Gun.Smoke being reissued in compilations. They could've made something along the lines of what Namco did with Pac Man CE and Galaga Legions, or even something like a Vampire Survivors more recently, but nothing.

Also, a sequel to Kya: Dark Lineage for PS2. The sequel is mentioned in the game's ending, but then Eden went on to do Test Drive Unlimited and I think they don't exist any more? But I'd love to see it, the enemy designs were kinda hokey but I loved the way it played.

What the heck is this game ? oO

Virtual On meets Devil May Cry ? I never heard of it
In terms of moment to moment gameplay think Virtual On with more verticality; you can jump, fly, and zoom around the large stages - which often feature different elevations, hidden spots and more. Combat itself is pretty simple - mostly just mashing a single button with auto-combos, but it's proximity sensitive, firing projectiles if your target is far away, and moving in if they're close.

But the theming is really what makes the game stand out! You don't simply select which character you want to fight as, but instead build up a whole team of these tiny, toy-sized robots (of which there are over 200) which you collect via gachapon capsules, and bring them into battle! Once one of your dudes BLOWS UP then you send out the next! This adds a level of team building similar to something like Pokemon, and the sheer variety of borgs allows you to build a team that matches your personality as much as your playstyle. We got ninjas; we got tanks; we got a whole series of tokusatsu inspired superheroes! You can even command a huge thunder dragon, or hover over the battlefield as a futuristic warship. Better yet! You can have a team that includes all of those if you'd like!

The singleplayer campaign is good craic, with saturday morning cartoon vibes throughout over the 3 distinct arcs: first take out the local bullies; then deal with a mysterious girl working for the big bad; and then finally take on the big bad himself! Fights are usually team efforts with you selecting a partner from a roster of the other kids in town, and the roster increases as you invite new kids to join the action.

It's not a perfect game by any stretch of the imagination. Like I said - it's a lot of mashing the B button! But it has the foundations of something really interesting and it would've been nice to see them build upon it.

Maybe someday...
