Games You Think Get Undeservedly Hated

fallout 3, ik its the nostalgia from it being my first fallout games but it doesn't deserve the hate

The boring gameplay literally made people hate it to bits even with how everything else are more than good enough.

Also this noobie kiddies RPG with killer OST because it's not a mainline FF

"Oh no, the plot's not like the first game therefore it's baaaaaad!"
Uh sure, it's basically the improved sequel with the same beats, maybe you're just blinded by the hype of back then

Aaaaaand ignored.
EDIT: Sorry, but most of these games are genuinely bad. They're not just "little different from their predecessors", they're poorly made trainwrecks.

Different style from the first game, but not a bad game by any means.

People claim this is the worst Dragon Quest game, but I enjoyed it and don't understand all the hate it gets.

I will agree that the one hit kill can be annoying at times, but this is far from the worst platformer on the system, and can be quite enjoyable.
People hate DQ2??? While DQ4 exists??? Man, what a world we live in... DQ2 might be my favorite in the series (tied with DQ3). 4 was unrelentingly boring.

Final Fantasy VIII

When it came out, folks were expecting a direct sequel to Final Fantasy VII or at least something that played just like it. 8's biggest sin was just not being VII, although the junction system did turn a lot of people off.

You either love to junction, or hate to junction.

live by the junction die by the junction...

Honestly, if I could save junction sets or rejunction mid battle I would have no complaints. The worst part about junctioning is how they expext you to just Know what certain enemies/bosses are weak to or else you're stuck doing no damage and taking a ton.

I was summoned to this thread by mentions of Mega Man & Bass.

Aside from that, I think people vastly overrate how bad MMBN4 is due to its translation.

Yoshi's Story. It's nowhere near as good as Yoshi's Island and super short unless you score chase. Still not a bad game.

Sonic Heroes. Most of the bad Sonic games absolutely deserve the hate (Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic 06, Sonic Forces, Sonic Superstars). Heroes is a decently fun experience. It certainly doesn't belong in the same category as the others.

Tales of Legendia. The battle system is a major downgrade from any other game in the series. I dunno who thought that was a good idea. Despite this it still has the most important parts of a Tales game: good story, fun characters, great soundtrack. Go in without expecting an engaging battle system and you'll have an enjoyable time.

Metroid: Other M. It's pretty great, surprisingly.

Y'all know what I'm gonna say, but I'm adding a twist to it: Daikatana... 64!

I'm sorry, but when a major gaming outlet caps out a review of the port written at the height of PC version's unpopularity (when it was expected to hate it and everything bearing its name) with "don't buy this, don't say we didn't warn you" while also only showing screenshots of the first level, I'm calling BS on the whole thing, and have for the past +20 years.

This review was actually what led me to try the game out for myself after Nintendo 64 emulation escaped "pipe dream" territory and what made me realize just how fun and engaging the whole thing could be if one were to take the time to learn it properly, which the vast majority of people PAID TO PLAY IT simply didn't.

I never saw game journalism the same afterwards... I just couldn't.

Agreed, I actually like the fact that they didn't just toss out a Zelda 1 clone, change a few things, and say "here you go." They tried something different. Yes, it's a fucking hard game, but like I said about Deadly Towers, it's hard, not awful.

I actually think I like Zelda II more than the first, personally.
Much like I prefer ALTTP over OoT. Ya ya, boo me because OoT is the best thing since sliced bread, but that's just my opinion.

It doesn't have to be anyone else's. But no, Zelda II is not a horrible game. It's just Dark Souls hard for its time.
I don't think the 'A Link to the Past is better than Ocarina of Time' is all that controversial of an opinion any more. From my experience, it feels like the overall opinion of OoT has changed over the past decade or so, it is still considered groundbreaking and good, but given that every other 3D zelda game has basically been OoT but more refined, it has really diminished the impact of said title for modern players.

Angry Youtube reviewers hated these games because the NES had a bad port of the first game, but almost every single RPG today has elements from these games. Super Hydlide feels almost like a 16-bit Elder Scrolls or Immersive Sim game with its character creation, day night cycle, and weight encumbrance system. Virtual Hydlide, frame-jank and FMV-weirdness aside, is purely fascinating for being a 3D Action-RPG Open-World Roguelike in 1995 on the Sega Saturn of all consoles, which is kind of crazy they even pulled it off as much as they did.

They are even pretty accessible in terms of player access with most of the computer versions of Super Hydlide (Hydlide 3: The Space Memories) having different text options including English! Virtual Hydlide in its easy and normal modes have quest markers and maps so you can always keep making progress. Most reviews I noticed are based either on the Hard difficulty or the unlockable Pro Difficulty that do not have these features which I don't think gives it a completely fair wrap. The games are far from perfect but I highly recommend them for trying something different compared to other games of their respective console and eras. If an indie developer took

Also, Super Hydlide on Genesis has a kickin soundtrack -

it's like Solstice and Equinox. It's not bad.
