the maps are relatively bland and uninspired, but it has this comfy coffee table book feel about it to me, nowadays it's no worse off than a late game marvel movie imo. I liked the take on mage combat they introduced and the story and characters were charming and well embodied. It was a comfort in interesting times and It is a guilty pleasure for me.

Final Fantasy 2, Mother 1, Yoshi's Island DS and Fire Emblem 11 (aka Shadow Dragon)

For most of my childhood probably gen 5 pokemon (everyone online hated it at the time). Also there are people who don’t like Mario Party 8 for some reason? (Personally it’s not that bad but the GC games seem to be held in higher regard). There’s also the Conception series (jrpg) People seem to think its trashy persona and they’re right (still like it though)

I loved Double Dragon 3 on the NES back when it came out. Over the years though I've seen that it gets a lot of hate. You have 4 playable characters which include a kung fu master and a ninja. You travel around the world. You fight a zombie Egyptian queen or something for a final boss. And you get to store nunchuks in your inventory. The game was awesome

And yeah, obligatory Zelda II mention. I wouldn't say it's necessarily better than the first game, but it was enjoyable in its own right. I kind of like when Zelda games get a little more dark and serious. I liked Twilight Princess and never finished Wind Waker. And I didn't really mind the difficulty. Maybe I was more patient years ago because I've just mentioned two games that get criticized a lot for their difficulty and I don't remember getting frustrated with them.

Final Fantasy XIII had a superb combat system. Its follow ups were a little less enjoyable, but I like the interesting ways they utilized time travel and a Dooms Day scenario. I think Lightning's best showing was in the third game characterwise.

I don't love Sonic Forces or Mega Man X 7, but I don't think they're anywhere near as bad as people say they are. Maybe I'm weird. I think a game like Scott Pilgrim was pretty mediocre if you looked past its amazing graphics and music and people regularly hail it as one of the best beat 'em ups ever made. I also think God Hand deserved its IGN score, I think Persona 5 is boring and trying too hard to be edgy and cool, and I hate Final Fantasy 9

not a specific game but classic grindy JRPGs are my shit, it's just a little boring but watching number go up is always addicting and turn based combat is fun because you can go at your own pace and take a little break mid boss fight if you want to :)

I liked resident evil 6 for what it was. Just a fun action shooting game with lots of zombies. I believe expectations is what got people to hate it because on its own its not a bad game. Maybe if they didn't name it RE6 people would accept it more

FINAL FANTASY MYSTIC QUEST RULES AND THAT'S A FACT
Also a lot of Castlevanias: Harmony of Dissonance, both Castlevanias for the 64, The Adventure and Legends.
Mega Man 3 and X6. And honestly, I think I like the first Sonic quite more than the second one (maybe in par with S3&K to me)

Metal Gear Solid V :
Yes, the game is flawed. Yes, the story has issues, the game world feels barren and not as interactive as I would've wanted and the ending is very unsatisfying. But the sheer amount of player agency and fun you can have in it, finding different ways to mess with enemy guards and taking out enemy checkpoints makes it a very fun and enjoyable experience. I spent a lot of time just going around the combat environments finding better soldiers to extract and testing out researched weapons and equipment etc.

Resident Evil 5 :
I was apprehensive about the game since the common consensus among many is to skip 5 and 6 entirely, but I gave it a shot and I found it like a very entertaining horror-themed action game. The gameplay feels less clunky than RE4 to accommodate it being more action-oriented and despite some issues relating to managing the AI partner, I actually enjoyed having Sheva along for the ride. It was a great simulation of co-op even when playing alone. The inventory management is a bit of a hassle because of how so very tight it is and you can't to my knowledge transfer weapons mid-level. And the DLCs were also fun additions, as was the Mercenaries mode.

Max Payne 3 :
Max Payne 1 will always style-wise be my favorite Max Payne. The music, the comic-book cutscenes, the just-perfect mix of silly / serious style, the Sam Lake-constipation face Max and the setting of a New York in the middle of a snow storm are impossible to compete with.

That said, I think that Max Payne 3 does the right thing of taking Max into a different setting because imo MP2 treaded the same path as MP1 too much, and despite being very different in style from Max Payne 1 and 2, I think Max Payne 3 really nails the feel of being a playable action movie. And the vastly improved gunplay (taking cover, better functioning shoot dodge that allows you to stay on the floor after a shoot dodge) and level of detail in gunplay feedback (the gore, the kill cams, environment destruction) make Max Payne 3 very satisfying game to play.

While these games were decently popular, even would say "hits", I think within their respective fandoms they've been in imo opinion really really hated. While I understand a lot of the reasonings why some would dislike them, I think that missing out on these titles would've been a big mistake.

I enjoyed it quite a bit on release, I liked the narrower scope. I think people have been softening on it over the years, at least it seems that way since it came up again with Veilguard's release.

Battle Beast was one of my favourite games for its cartoony graphics
