Games you like for arbitrary reasons?

Earth Defense Force 4. For the hymm alone. Even the AI-controlled allies on Singleplayer sing it up!

"We'll unleash all our forces! We won't cut them any slack!"

Taking the question in the literal sense, I really like the Gen 1 Pokemon games for their glitches that can use Arbitrary Code Execution (also referred to as ACE) to run nearly any code that the hardware is capable of running without the use of an external device.

To give a different answer, I like Fire Emblem 7 more than other entries in the series because of Lyn's critical move animations.

This applies to FE Awakening's critical cut-ins, too. I've found that I prefer these to the later entries' full face cut-ins, for the most part. They're quick and snappy. I like the gameplay of both games as-is, too, but I'd be lying if I said that these animations weren't a big reason why I like them so much.

the world is well made it really feel alive in the hidden library if you read the books you learn more about legend. myth. and history of world
the dungeons just fit in so well in the game world
story is the best part of the game.

the pleasing garden in the sky and ghost ship are my favorit dungeons
i like ghost ships and flying castles

Gianna sisters, my uttermost respect to the devs for the brave move of cloning SMB1 back in the day, and even though I'm not found of the gameplay physics, I love the trippy vibe of this game.

I think it kinda lost its personality after being rebooted.

Test Drive 6.

Because the physics and the AI are extremely stupid, lol.

What are some games you don't play but you still like? Whether it be the soundtrack, the story, the character designs, etc

I've never played touhou because I don't really like those galaga type shooters. I think they're considered shmups? But I ADORE the character designs as well as most of the music that came out of the franchise

I couldn't get into dark souls but I LOVE the soundtrack to it.

I have yet to play Outlast 2 myself, but I enjoyed the story from watching gameplays of it

It's weird how touhou games feel like a minor aspect of the franchise despite being its mainline medium.

Sorry I didn't see that other thread

what other game I was going to mention doesn't matter. EDF time.
EDF! EDF!

I just absolutely adore the campy Japanese B movie vibes. And playing the Fencer class just tickles something good in my brain. It feels like a mech game, but at the same time not. Just breaking and canceling animations is key to getting good with that class.

I really like Simpsons Road Rage cause the characters and music are really fun and the controls are super straightforward compared to Crazy Taxi. I even love the GBA version due to how ambitious it got with mode 7, it keeps warping and you can't look away!

I'm terrible at fighting games, but there's just something so satisfying about getting something right. That and the panty shots, if a girl can highkick she's going to highkick.

I'm terrible at playing Earthworm Jim games, but have a soft spot in my heart for them because of how good the cartoon was.

Also, character design. Jim's sprite was the most expressive 16 bit character I ever saw. Still think he's super rad, even if I do suck at his games.

Anything with customizable robots
That's why I like the genesis game Cyborg Justice. It's a pretty lousy beat-em up/fighting game, but you play as a customizable robot and you can rip the weapons off your opponent and swap them with your own. The selection's pretty limited and the game itself is pretty repetitive but we used to play a lot of it when I was a kid just because of the robot customization.

Too Human for the Xbox 360. Why?

This and Captain Blood are fine examples of what being in developmental hell looks like (and Cyberpunk 2077 for that matter too).

It went through so many changes and so many different console generations that it barely got released, and it only got released through a legal technicality (which involved the devs using pirated versions of the Unreal engine they used to make the darn game in the first place.)

All in all, it's a repetitive, linear and honestly, quite meh of an action rpg.

You can probably find a lose copy of it from your local secondhand games shop.

That doesn't surprise me nor assure me. Honestly I was just as shocked when I first heard the announcement on the day that it was announced to now be backwards compatible with the Xbone.

I only play Animal Crossing games for the fishing. I love fishing in Animal Crossing.

I've really enjoyed Total War: Attila, but not for the battles themselves. I played it for the "RPG" mechanics, town management and politics. Also, I don't really enjoy most Dark Souls (1-3) boss fights, I mostly play those games for the exploration.

I don’t know what this even means if I’m being honest. I like games because I like games.
