Games you initially hated but ended up growing on you?

Believe or not FF7 ,or basically any turn based games .I hated the idea of just playing with menus and I thought it was dumb but I was like "Yo this game is popular maybe too popular ,there gotta be a reason" so I gave it a try and the rest is history

Final fantasy 16 was really frustrating to me at launch, it had and still has so many issues and untapped potential/misguided vision on what it wants to be but eventually it grew on me and I look back at this game really fondly, It’s just a badass action game and it’s not a bad thing.

I used to hate turn based rpg as a kid and now I’ve played almost every mainline Final Fantasy and every mainline Dragon Quest games, my mother told me your taste change as you grow older but I still hate vegetables, though I wouldn’t say no to another jrpg.

I didn't hate it, but I had a hard time understanding
how to play Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter at first...

I really vibed with the story and setting though. I broke down and bought a guide which
helped a ton! I was even able to beat it, still have the super dungeon though...

Interesting to see a perspective from the opposite side of the spectrum. To me Dragon Quarter was where BoF died. The first four are very good (though they all have their problems), but Dragon Quarter is just something I can't stand.

I can completely understand the feeling. Dragon Quarter is a curious beast, and have no doubt it led to the series dormancy...
It comes off a bit like a Survival-Horror RPG with the item management, and the ever dreaded D-counter. A lot of others I've talked to about it weren't a fan of it and felt it too restricting since you couldn't go full ham with the dragon form. Considering the story, and how this game's "Ryu" was possessed by the dragon, it makes sense to me. Doesn't make for a fun mechanic for everyone though...

Yeah I know it was trying to go for something different, and at least there is a valid plot reason for the mechanical changes; it's even worse in a game when there's a disconnect between the two, but yeah, let's admit it, dragon transformation has always been a bit of a highlight, so rationing that is a bit underwhelming.

Sudeki... That's the only one i can think of that counts.

Sedeki (Xbox exclusive originally) had a fantasy world, combat was a bit weak, got multiple characters, and then some alternate dark/mirror alternate dimension game. Probably the biggest problem is the beginning is a little too bland and slow to get through. But being one of the only games i had (talking 2005 in the army in korea with like 4 games), you just play what you haven't beaten yet, and Sudeki was that game.

The story wasn't bad. But it wasn't fun... At least until you suddenly got the cat girl and got cool high action AOE attack moves, then the game instantly turned into fun. But before that, it was a slog...

Silent Hill 4

I really didn't care for the change in structure, with it's more delimited and smaller levels. The main characters felt shallow for the most part. Gameplay felt frustrating and not as enjoyable as the previous Silent Hill games ; and I just hated the whole second part of the game with Eileen...

Nowadays I can enjoy the different quirks of the game and appreciate its efforts to innovate in the Survival Horror genre, especially the gameplay phases inside the appartment. I also just love how messed up the story went, it's so insane, disturbing and all around memorable.

I still hate Eileen to this day though, no matter how many Playthrough I did.

I wasn't too fond of the first Assassin's Creed when I first played it. Started the series with AC 2 and loved it. However the repetitive missions of AC 1 really turned me off from the game and I never finished it. Played through the series again few years later and found myself loving it the second time around. The story was great and the character of Altair had great development throughout the game. It has the best atmosphere of any game in the series( it's much more grim than some of the later games). It's repetitive missions are still an annoyance though. It's not my favourite AC but it's definitely up there.
one little thing i really REALLY like about AC1, which btw i noticed completely by accident while playing, is that Damascus, the muslim city, has a yellowish filter/hue-

The christian city, Acre, has a Bluish hue-

And Jerusalem, the city where both groups of people live together, has a Green hue, because blue + yellow = green

Yeah the different filter for each city really helped in setting the atmosphere for the game. Acre in particular looks depressing due to the blue filter, which works for a city that had just gone through a siege and now has dead bodies lying in the streets.
