Games You Finished in 2025

2 more done, I'm 88 games...will I be able to do 12 (obviously short) ones? Absolutely not. But at this point I'm definitely going after my birthyear.

Hands down of the best and funniest Sega Genesis games of all times. I played the original mode, I will eventually play the arcade one with...well, the actual arcade version. I know it's even much shorter (20 minutes vs 40 of the original exclusive mode from here).
This is how I always imagined Ikari Warriors if it didn't sucked: filled with action, doesn't waste your time, very quick and engaging. Easily a 9/10.

I feel I would have enjoyed this game much better if with a friend, just like I did with the original first title. There are many improvements, especially on the visuals, but I wish the controls could have been less...stiffer? Like, at least dashing by double tapping or something. But whatever, the game itself is still a pretty damn good beat'em up. The annoyance were with some enemies (especially the ninja guy called "Nail") which frustrated me more than I've expected.

#89: I forgot to add Gradius for the NES, which I beat this July. A solid shmup of Konami golden age but not that great. I feel I liked other R-Type games better. Pretty sure I had more fun with Gradius for Game Boy than that. But still an alright game, like a 6/10.

I'm still stuck in the arcade original (which is a completely different game), so I decided to play the ones avaiable on NSO. I did earlier the first NES one as already said, so I got through with this one...twice.
Yep. And all because I thought the normal mode would just be the whole game. But no, it's one of those games that ends like this:

....so, after another playthrough in Master mode, I'm done. The difficulty seemed basically the same.

Ok, let's cut to the chase: this is better than the arcade. But it's like saying that a burned out pizza is better than a carbonized one.
What I really hated about this game is how it swaps the goddamn punch and kick controls depending on the direction you're facing. Seriously?? It messes up completetely with the brain. Not to mention that the kick goes always on the other side instead of on front.

Of the most modern one I tried Neon and hated it as well. I feel only Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise Of The Dragons will be the only decent one. Hey, at least for me. More power to you if you liked these classic games at the times and you still do nowadays. I'm aware how influential this series is for the beat'em up genre, and it's why I wanted to finish these games at least once out of respect...but I can't lie and say I enjoyed most of them.

4.5/10. Just to say it's better than the second Double Dragon arcade (which is easily a 2/10).

One modern release:
Pokemon Legends Z-A
It was okay. I had to jump on this because I love Kalos. It could have been better, but the new battle system is neat.

One other:
Pokemon Red (Kanto Expansion Pak ROM hack)
I never thought of replaying Pokemon Red for two reasons: how dated it is and how I feel like Kanto Pokemon are shoved in my face too much nowadays. But this ROM hack changed things up enough. I loved that they added Green (the character) as a selection, so I didn't have to play as boring ol' Red. They added a bunch of beta Pokemon, regional forms of Kanto Pokemon from later games, and evolutions of Kanto Pokemon from later games, which made it lot less boring than generic Kanto 151 Pokemon. (Looking at you LG:P/E, which I never bought for this reason among others).

41.5. spore

idk if it counts but i've finally reached the center of the galaxy in spore, one of the games i grew up on, there is no credits sequence and it seems like there are opposing opinions on whether or not it counts as beating the game, so count it if you want to (or just jot me down as 41.5)

looking back, i'd say i did pretty damn good this year. a good mix of old classics and indies, an appropriate amount of erotic games, and one really long game in drakengard (all endings). there's a good chance that i'm not gonna get as many games in next year since i've enrolled into college and i've been getting more into other audiovisual mediums though. anyways, there's some games i'm excited to replay next year, and a notable retro game i'm nearing the end of that might be the real last one of this year, but we'll see. it would make for either a good sendoff or a good start to a year that's bound to be eventful for me.
