Games you discovered thanks to CDRomance

Probably a lot, like every one else, but the one I remember the most :
107600-zombie-virus-playstation-2-front-cover.jpg

I doubt that's a game I would have chosen when I was still going to stores to pick up games on a whim. Or found easily, for that matter.

I would pick it up now, simple (series) but a lot of fun.

Oh, tons! But for instance:
  • 7th Dragon 2020 (and 2020-II)
  • Black Rock Shooter
  • Shadow of Destiny (Shadow of Memories)
  • Ys Seven
  • Crimsom Gem Saga
  • Hexyz Force
  • Toukiden Kiwami
  • Valhalla Knights
  • Obscure: The Aftermath
  • Brave Story: New Traveler
  • Dungeon Explorer: Warriors of the Ancient Arts
And on and on...

Also, romhacks/mods like GTA: Sindacco Chronicles, Resident Evil: Deep Freeze and Resident Evil: Unicorn Cut ?

Didn't even know this existed until a few weeks ago when I stumbled upon it on the site. Instantly became one of my favorites!

I'll go with Baroque (PS1), seeing a video on Baroque is what got me getting an emulator up and running for the first time in years and then it went from there to archiving games I had and wanting to experience new games. YouTube video essays in general were a big inspiration, CDR is just where I found Baroque with English translation (and many other things after that)

Phantasy Star Portable 2i and Black Rock Shooter: The Game. Straight heat for PSP there.
Honorable Mention goes out to Ghost in the Shell on PS1, didn't know GITS had a PS1 game.

I saw this when it got uploaded, everyone was saying it was pretty good horror wise. I have to get around to it one of these days.

My list would be too long, so I will just name the ones I have discovered most recently:

Ico (PS2)
I discovered this masterpiece thanks to moderator GVSE's great article regarding Ueda's trilogy, and I am playing it now.

Astal (SS)
The cover of the American version is simply horrible, but this game is amazing....

Parasite Eve (PS1/Font Hack)
So far I had only played the second episode (awesome!) in PAL/French version.

The beatmania series on ps1. Basically just the entire series. Works better on a controller than Dance Dance Revolution and the multiplayer experience just feels a bit better.

Also specifically Nascar 06: Total Team Control as well, I would have never seen myself enjoying oval racing for long periods of time before trying out this game, and now, I'm a sucker for it. (unless they put a oval in a Ridge Racer, because god knows those races are harder than all the others because RR isn't made for oval racing and yet they still tried twice on the ps1 back to back)

Wow ! Fun thread !
It's kinda interesting I loaded up most of my roms on the Samsung thanks to CDR ?
The translations and undub collection is what's best about it too !

I guess in terms of what games were discovered ... top few highlights are ...
-Oriental Blue ( I mean ... the cover art compelled me to play it ! ... was worth playing in 2022-2023 ! )
-Community Pom ( It was just there and it had me curious :O )
-Grandia and Grandia II ( OST and battle system was just awesome ! )
-A better undub of Crisis Core

and probably like over 50 other titles from Sony and N titles of various gaming systems

Yep !

My answer is bit generic because the answer in some ways is "bit too many to count".

CDRomance, or now "The Repo" for us, heck maybe Romance Repo Could sell a T-Shirt with that, has been thanks to curation of spike, mainly a good place to find out about new translation, improvement and restoration hacks, and with games and cases where there has been competing or attendums by other parties, those are usually the newest ones, or I trust Romance Repo a lot to be a place to post the very latest and best.

While divisive for community at wide, for me this has been incredible service in some many ways and I've taken looks at the main page of The Repo to ever so often just to see what's new on this digital retro shop. There always seems to be something new and interesting, and I thank any of you who are donators, I am just too financially unrecoverable to dent like some of you and I thank all of you for this.

Pretty much everything i play thats not on steam i got from cdromance but i guess for games i discovered on here just by browsing around i would have to say nanobreaker and sword of destiny for the ps2. most other roms i search for i hear from other places or theyre tied to whatever series or studio catalogue im currently playing through.

god. So many. pretty much anything that’s had an English translation. I’m 90% certain ive downloaded every patched jp game that interests me here but i still look through different consoles just in case i forgot something?

I don't remember finding any new games, but I have found a ton of English translations I didn't know existed or even thought to look for. Like the Digimon WonderSwan games, the portable Tales games, the Metal Max games and an assorted bunch of others. I just hit "English Patched" for all the consoles and went full ham. You're the best, Spike! ?
