Games that took a couple of tries to get into

As mentioned by Azazelivae, Monster Hunter fits the bill here for me. I tried MH Generations Ultimate first in the series, but I was pretty lost on how to play the game.

MH Rise and a few youtube videos helped me get to grips with the series more recently, and it's been great! I still plan to go back to MHGU later.

Dynasty Warriors, including any licensed variants. I like the idea of sending jillions of people flying with my rad attacks, but then I fire one up and after about 15 minutes, I want to go do something else. Maybe they get really great later and I'm just not giving them enough of a chance, idk
I can relate to that feeling, I installed the demo for Touken Ranbu Warriors on switch, but....damn. Maybe it doesn't have that 2000s charm that older musou games seem to have...(On an unrelated note Capcom bring back Sengoku Basara PLEASE)

Took me a few times to see Final Fantasy VI through, but the last time it really got it's hooks into me.

I've been like this with a few Turn-Based RPGs, as it's a genre I didn't start appreciating more until I got a little older.

it is the best ff game

I having this with Elden Ring recently! Have it on my library since last year but recently i sit down to give it a fair try and now i am clicking adhjhads

Symphony of the Night for one, which I bounced off when it came out and didn't play through until maybe a decade ago when I did the whole *whatever percentage* thing. Having said that, I still don't quite love it.

The biggie for me is definitely Final Fantasy Tactics though. I bought it shortly after release and just didn't click with it at all, found it slow and frustrating. Shelved it for over a decade, then, for whatever reason, gave it another shot and got completely addicted. I've since sunk countless hours into it (mostly on PS1 and PSP), and it's firmly in my all-time top 10.

I love Dark Souls but I bounced off it hard the first time I played it.
I came back to it like 6 months later and suddenly it just "clicked" for me

that what Dark souls 2 did for me, i played it on and off for a few yrs till late last yr i finally js played it and fell in love with dark souls

as a jrpg nut, the Saga Frontier serie
i remember a lot of attempts trying to understand how to correctly proceed, battle system included

As a falcom fanboy, i hate to admit it but, the trails series, started with fc and was underwhelmed at first, took me nearly a year before i sat down and played it.

I played Dark Souls 2 and had a rough time trying to get into it. It felt like a hurdle playing the game. I beat the first boss with a summon and for some reason just stopping playing.

A year or so later I got Bloodborne and also had a rough time getting into it. I looked up some tips online, stuck with it, enjoyed a lot of what Bloodborne had to offer and from then on I've enjoyed a fair amount of FromSoft games.

For me, the games that I had to try a few times before liking them: The Art of Magic, Dragon's Dogma, Resonance of Fate, Dark Souls.

The games that I've tried several times but haven't finished yet: Baldur's Gate, Bloodborne.

There are probably others, but I can't remember them right now.

I played assassins creed a couple of times but drop it because I couldn't stand how slow was the "tutorial", but once I decided to play it a thind time, and endure several hours of playing it, I ended up loving it and from then on I played all the games in the franchise up to that point.
