Basically puzzle platformers where you switch between characters on the fly. Always though the concept was really cool but never really found any games similar to it. The closest I've played is the GBA version of Shrek 2.

I was actually planning on playing the PC Engine version of Sorcerian at some point. I wasn't really aware on how it played. I can usually read enough Japanese to get by so the text shouldn't be to much of an issue. I can always look up a guide if I get stuck.

Sorcerian isn't a puzzle game though, its more like a hack and slash YS style game.
ya I notice it's missing the puzzle aspect, but it does have multiple characters on a side scrolling perspective. Seems this very specific sub-genre doesn't have a lot of choices so have to make some compromises.
King Arthur's World looks cool and very Lemmings-esc. I'll have to give that a try as well.

King arthurs world is probably the closest, it's puzzley and multi character/s. Gets rock hard though lol

Aardman's "Home Sheep Home" series of flash platformers are almost exactly what yer' lookin for!

Also not a puzzle game per say but i do wanna give a shoutout to Three Dirty Dwarves on the Saturn since there is just. No other game like that and I'm not sure there ever will be.

zelda the four swords kinda did it, also castlevania portrait of ruin use a similiar mechanic. Cima the enemy also more a escort mission style, but something lost vikings style is hard to exactly find. Honestly wish they would make more like them....sigh stupid Blizzard

I'm not sure if there are many platformers like that. I don't even remember the existence of such a game I played.

The only closest game I remember is Sonic the Hedgehog 3. If you want you can start the game with a companion animal that is like a fox with multiple tails so it can fly like a helicopter (what a logic lol). However instead of switching character on the fly, player can control this character via 2nd gamepad to make themselves fly above places Sonic cannot reach. However existence of this fox character is not needed at all to beat the game. Why it exist and what the hell is this animal is a big mystery to me that I never bothered to learn because I was never interested in Sonic per se lol. But this character just allows a convenient way to explore places Sonic cannot reach if the player optionally wants to.

If we're to stick with Sonic The Hedgehog a more fitting game with a similar style would be Sonic Heroes or Sonic Advance 3.

That's said, there are actually several puzzle platformers similar to the Lost Viking, they aren't usually my cup of tea so I can't think of many at the top of my head but like I mentioned Animaniacs on Mega Drive (and GBC) seems to be exactly what you are looking for.

I believe there's a Ninja Turtles metroidvania like game on Gameboy if this was more or less what you are looking for.

That's said, if you are looking for just a platformer where you switch between characters on the fly for different abilities I can suggest Bugs Bunny and Taz Time Busters for Playstation, Bugs Bunny and Lola on GBC, Animaniacs for Gamecube and PS2, Flintstones Dinosaur Peak on NES, and Teen Titans on GBA, there's also Mega Man and Bass Character Swap Hack but this one is kinda cheating, I could mention several more but I don't wanna spam.

If you are into old school games, I would definitely recommend the Gobliiins saga. They are not platformers. but you have three characters with singular abilities which must be used to solve the puzzle and proceed to the next screen. They are very funny and witty. The downside is that they are only available for PC (the first one is in scummVM, though)

Gobliiins
