9 months?????? Where can I read more about it? I love reading about game development!Final Fantasy 8 was made in only 9 mounts and it shows if they had more dev time to polish the game it would be one of the best JRPG of all time
I do remember hearing it was a very short development cycle, but I can't find where exactly I heard this claim but I might be miss remembering something.9 months?????? Where can I read more about it? I love reading about game development!
Could never really get into this game, but I do want to play it more, I had no absolute idea about the voice acting at all.I'll change "very disappointing" to "somewhat disappointing", because I had a good experience with it. But.
Not taking itself too seriously is fine, but this game takes that concept to another level. The story has no sense of buildup or whatever, it's go meet that random person, now go meet that other random one. Which is underwhelming considering this game progression is basically doing fetch quests in a linear progression that barely tries to disguise itself in the "open" world by arbitrarily locking places you can't go yet. Looking at the map requires to pause the game then choose an option, which is something you're going to do a lot. You're gonna pause at boss fights to eat food too.
The Double Dragon brothers DLC I was waiting for was a disappointment too because it doesn't respect its real source material, Double Dragon Neon. The sprites are off, the moveset is off, and so are the voice actors, because they had to go with popular youtubers instead of the original voices. (I HATE CELEBRITY CASTING CULTURE!!!!!)
The same thing happened to me, the stealth scenes in games that are not of this genre bother me a lot, it is true that in Fusion the X also chases you but at least it is relatively easy to dodge it but in Dread it is certain death.Metroid Dread. I hoped it would be like Super Metroid instead it was a very generic looking stealth action platformer with light metroidvania elements. It's the only metroid game I've played that I just dropped part way through and never felt like finishing. I'd already played Hollow Knight by the time I played Metroid Dread and I just couldn't understand how a game that came out 4 years before Dread could be a better metroid game than an actual metroid game.
Show me on this doll where GoldenEye touched you...I just love doing this. Goldeneye 007. Supposedly considered one of the greatest games ever. But yet the character you play as feels like as light as a Paper Doll and the shooting is kinda strange.
As per wikipedia: "Development of Final Fantasy VIII began in 1997, during the English-language translation of Final Fantasy VII". FFVII came out August 31st in English, and FFVIII came out in February 1999. So that's a year and a half to two years of development, not nine months. In the interview on shmuplations.com, Tetsuya Nomura even says "Immediately after the FF7 development wrapped, we started having meetings with Kitase and everyone to discuss FF8", so that's two years.Final Fantasy 8 was made in only 9 mounts and it shows if they had more dev time to polish the game it would be one of the best JRPG of all time
I found Fusion a bit disappointing after waiting so long after Super Metroid for a new game but it at least still felt mostly like a Metroid game. The Emmi parts felt like a totally different genre altogether and they broke the flow of the game badly. I also found them game just looked very generic. Like it just looked like a Unity game with assets from the store or something. Metroid games all stand out.The same thing happened to me, the stealth scenes in games that are not of this genre bother me a lot, it is true that in Fusion the X also chases you but at least it is relatively easy to dodge it but in Dread it is certain death.
To be fair, you picked some pretty drab Dread screenshotsI found Fusion a bit disappointing after waiting so long after Super Metroid for a new game but it at least still felt mostly like a Metroid game. Look at those other Metroid games then look how bland and drab Dread looks by comparison. I don't even really like the art style in the Metroid 2 remake but it still at least looks less boring and generic.
Yeah the thing is. I just picked the first bunch of screenshots at the top of the search for each game. You have to actually try to find unique looking screenshots for Dread. Almost every area in almost every other Metroid game is colourful and unique looking. To be fair, you picked some pretty drab Dread screenshots

It doesn't bother me that people didn't like the game. Many of the complaints I've read about the design and general look of the game are legitimate. There's plenty more competition in the genre now, and the bar for 3D art design in the series was set pretty high in the Prime games. I'll mostly remember Dread for the boss fights, as well as the underwater and plant environments. The firey areas before the Kraid fight were memorable, as well.
I do wish Samus Returns had gotten a HD Switch port, though. I never found the 3DS comfortable to play, and therefore never got to try that one for myself...![]()

I know you mean that more from a imagination point of view, but from a purely visual perspective I find NES Metroid to be quite the colorful game. Because of the plain black background, the bright 8-bit sprites and tiles stand off a lot as a result.Having just Google'd "Metroid Dread Screenshots," um... can confirm
In my defense, back when I considered myself a diehard Metroid fan, the game looked like this:

As you said, most areas in most of the later Metroid games were rather colorful. But that OG one was pretty damn bleak - especially with those plain black backgrounds. I think this is why I'm forgiving of Dread's more "industrial" look, as the relative simplicity of it just wisks me back to my childhood in the 80s.
In a way, it's how I always envisioned a remake of the original game would look. Sharper and more detailed, but also still cold, harsh, and mechanical. Perfect for me... but I can also understand how other fans would not feel the same way.
I won't bug you any more after this post, but I've enjoyed our little back-and-forth, here! Thanks for indulging me, and allowing me to say my part![]()
The game is very loved.Final Fantasy VIII for me, so many bad design choices ruin the experience of the game, and many things are way too hard/nigh impossible like winning the card game in different regions, and getting all the GFs, Blue Magic, and items. Not being able to go anywhere but the end at the end of the game was a very poor decision for them, which did not cause the game to be remembered fondly.
I don't think you know what a bad game actually is.FFVIII and FFXIII like others have mentioned. If there's one guarantee in a Final Fantasy game, is that it will look incredible. It may not be fun, but it will look amazing and have a killer soundtrack.
FFXVI wasn't any better, to be honest. Its like DMC without any of the fun.
Remake and Rebirth are pretty bad too, although I'm sure I'm going to catch some flak for saying that. You can slap Cloud and Tifa on any game and no matter how bad it is, some fanboy will go to their grave defending it.

Really, Horizon? I loved the first one but didn't play the 2nd one yet, waiting somewhere in my pile of shame. Is it different somehow than the first or what makes it disappointing?Dragon's Dogma 2
Horizon Forbidden West
Yakuza Gaiden man erased name or something
Eiyuden Chronicles
These are some of the recent ones that disappointed me a lot.
