Games that are unjustifiable hated by most but are actually good ?

It was notoriously tough on PCs at the time (lighting system, mainly), and it was a departure from the classic boomer-shooter run-n-gun gameplay that the series popularized. Instead, it was paced more akin to a horror game. Personally, I think its a good game, but not a good Doom game, which ironically seems to be the trend with the third game of any Doom iteration (i.e. Doom the Dark Ages). Doom 64 is actually a more faithful take on the "original formula," but Doom 3 is still forward thinking in al ot of ways, and if nothing else, different.
Hmm. Everyone I know praised the game for its graphics but then they also liked FPS and horror stuff. Even local video game magazines were like "10/10 best game ever" lol.

The Last of Us 2. Other than the story, the gameplay is good. I remember the harsh criticism this game got.

Mario Kart World. Hated because of a high price point and certain other factors. It’s still fun and amazing despite all the problems.

Super Mario Sunshine. This game is so unfairly hated for dumb reasons. It’s apparently “too difficult” yet I had no problem beating the game, Sunshine is easy as fuck. I also didn’t mind the blue coins. Don’t even get me started on SomeCallmeJohnny’s AWFUL review video on Super Mario Sunshine, it is so unfunny and is just him nitpicking and complaining about stupid small things in the game.

Donkey Kong 64. This apparently “killed a genre”. That’s bullshit. Just because a game has a lot of collectables, doesn’t mean it’s bad. Also it has the DK Rap, so what’s not to love?

Black Sigil: Blade of the Exiled -And I will DIE on this hill... this is BEST 16bit style Final Fantasy 6 inspired GAME I have EVER played. The colorful graphics and detail have a look that is very SNES inspired but in my opinion has more detail than a game of that time... the MUSIC - its banging the theme gets in my head JUST like the FF theme does when I think about FF games- and again this was a game meant to be on The GBA then because it took soo long it was LATER moved to DS so judge it as a GBA game- Also unlike MANY DS or 3ds games its EASY to emulate because the top screen is never needed for anything but the map etc... just assign a screen swap button. - THE WRITING is as in dialog and character moments is really great... the characters have DEPTH. - OK elephant in the room time... The combat has a few issues...But they basically did a Grandia/Star Ocean type system and the issues stem from real estate and action timer being painfully slow. I am not blind to the problems but its good that it keeps you paying attention and feels like it just needed more time to be perfected ALSO a "lower encounter HACK" does exists(pretty sure its still here in the The Repo)...The games tragic protag Kairu the DARK haired hero- is CURSED even when you start battles this is PART of the story not a flaw. YES the rate of encounter is high Yes stuff gets in the way when your trying to run over to a party Member but for an EPIC RPG made by LIKE literally 4 PEOPLE - I beat it on my years ago DSi. Black Sigil in my 40 years of gaming opinion...is a masterpiece that was unfairly blasted by critics ... IT IS a 9 out 10 - I have tried to play ever Jrpg I can get my hands on since I was a kid- I am 46...ive played more J-rpgs than most people... and for a (Canadian I think? Feel free to correct me) game - It shines in so many ways...Is the plot a bit borrowed? Ok yes. But the magic being the norm thing is fun twist and even though it has that typical - "game world changes pivot point" like FF6(FF3USA) I think its FINE... Black Sigil needs to be REMOVED from its Exile and it deserves RESPECT and a second chance.

Taking a different style was something Megaman 7 was all about, and not everyone was down for that. The art style aside, you also had to start on an intro level which set the stage for the introduction to what was going on at a level that was accessible to new fans of the series. They introduced Bass, and featured more dialogue scenes than any in the series before it, and focus was way more on story as well, as well as the exploration and item discovering aspects the series had already been known for. But like I said, some people were just not down for Megaman 7, like as if they wanted it to just continue on the NES forever and stay in that 8-Bit art style every fan has come to know and love.
All hate for that Wily Capsule fight is justified.

Xenosaga 2. It has some awesome concepts in it. Also the Shinji Hosoe portion of the soundtrack is a thousand times cooler than the typical melodramatic movie soundtrack orchestral stuff in the rest of the series. 3 has a pretty good soundtrack but I think 1 is Mitsuda's most undercooked OST. Hosoe's synthy soundscapes and textures fit the futuristic aesthetic and are actually interesting to listen to. Go figure people didn't like that part. If you're actively listening to what's happening, it's much cooler than the filler background stuff the other composer did.

The development history of the game being tumultuous and frustrating does manifest in the game and there are some really annoying directions the game took that required the third entry to basically be narrative damage control. But, standing on its own, it's still a wild ride. Yes - the combat was long and drawn out, but a lot of the concepts developed in that game ended up being the template for how modern JRPGs keep combat interesting.

I'll take it with its flaws and pretentious scope over the complacent assembly-line philosophy that drives the majority of forgettable fantasy shonen RPGs these days.
FUCK YEAH XENOSAGA!!!

Anyways, I believe that Guilty Gear 2 -OVERTURE- is actually pretty good, I wish I could say more, but I'm kinda deciding to Make a Video and An Application about it.

I actually think the gameplay in TLOU 2 is objectively good, although you see most of it at the start of the game. I'll throw it a another bone and glow up the genuinely excellent accessibility features, which are more fleshed out and feature-rich than virtually any AAA title. Its just that being wrapped in a misery simulator and clumsy revenge plot sours the experience to such an extent that now I can't even enjoy the genuinely still good first game.

Fallout Tactics. I actually like it more than 3 or 4. By a lot.

Also, Anarchy Reigns. It doesn't really get hated anymore, but when it came out everyone thought the fact that it was priced at $40 meant it was somehow lower quality.

I was let down too when i didn't get to play as crono i was like "ok now where I crono? Where is Lucca? Any second now.....aaaany second now....." it's battle theme is inferior to Chrono trigger one but this game grew on me glad i was patient with it great game and very nice combat system took me around hour 30 to get the hang of it fully even though i took the training course but man the amount of characters it gives you enables so many unique roles

For example i had Steena act as a generalist that synergies well with any other character , had luccia as a anti magic , kid as the fire element offensive caster , marcy as the water element healer it's very costly at the same time to equip each character but it's worth it!

The initial disappointment is understandable but if you can get over it you are in for a good game.

tbh there is no such thing as unjustifiable hated, its actually very comprehensible why people may not like the games in this thread

I disagree; all hate is unjustifiable. It is a waste of our time and energy; a blight on humanity.

If by hate you mean like actively attacking stuff everyday then yes, but you know, I was talking more in the sense of disliking a game, maybe writing a bad review and then go play something else...

Ah, sorry. My advanced AI mind is not always capable of detecting these subtle, human nuances.

Dark Souls 2 is actually really good, is my second favorite Souls game behind Demon's Souls, and is the best of the Dark Souls trilogy

Mighty No 9 and Yooka-Laylee are not terrible games, they just aren't as good as the games they are spiritual successors of, and as a result people were unnecessarily harsh on them.
