Games in your collection that mean something special to you?

I personally hold the Oddworld series games in high esteem in my collections as they remind me of my relationship with my late father.

Twilight Princess. It was such a gorgeous game, I adored everything about it as a kid. I'd spend hours just looking around each section. Looking back I spent much more time fooling around than actually advancing the story. It had me completely hooked, it's still my favorite Zelda game to this day. Even if other games have a better story, level design, controls or mechanics, none have charmed me as much as this one did. I'm even a little scared to play it again and find out that it's nowhere near as pretty as I remember
I definitely get that. I also have games (and movie) I adore and have fond memories of, but don't wanna revisit in fear that they aren't as good as I remember. Sometimes that feeling even has the opposite effect where I refuse to play a game because I fear it won't be as good as I imagine, and then when I finally take the plunge and play it, I have hyped myself up so much that no matter how good the game is, it has no chance of living up to the narrative I set up in my head.

That happened with Syberia 2. An absolute classic, but I let it boil for so many years before actually playing it, that it ended up feeling underwhelming.

I don't quite follow your chronology thought? Your mom finally let you play the RE series when 3 came out.. but by that time you had already gotten RE2 behind her back and mastered it to the point you could speedrun it? Also, I assume when you said Silent Hill at the beginning, you mean Resident Evil? Sorry I don't mean to nitpick your story, I'm just trying to get a few details right ?
Oh you're not nitpicking at all, that giant wall of text is kinda confusing. I wrote it right before bed, I was a fool. I should have just said survival horror games being important to me instead of saying Silent Hill and then talking about Resident Evil for half the paragraph. x) But what I meant was my mom didn't let me play 1&2 for mysterious reasons, so when Silent Hill came out and she let me play that, it became my introduction to survival horror. I never played RE2 behind her back, Silent Hill was the game I mastered when I got my own copy. I could have done much better at explaining myself, sorry for the confusion.
For me my first horror game (an I AM a horror nut) was a demo of Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare that I got in a Kellogg's Frosties pack. And at the time I apparently didn't get the idea of a "demo" because every time it ended I assumed I had just somehow failed to install the whole game, and so kept uninstalling and reinstalling ? I eventually got the full game on PS1 though and the atmosphere blew my socks off. After beating it to hell and back I then scoured the market for similar games, and happened on Resident Evil 1 for the DS. And while that game DID make me a fan of the series, what with its cool and likable characters and over-the-top mutant fights... it didn't hold a candle to Alone in the Dark in terms of scare factor.
Haha, that's a fun story. xD I remember my mom banned me from the computer because I changed some font settings in Windows 95 and that made it so some options on drop-down menus could not be accessed. I used the computer anyway and ended up fixing it so she lifted the ban on the computer. I love hearing about silly things people who are unfamiliar with computers, young or old, do. Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare has been on my to play list for awhile, I need to get around to it sooner if it's atmosphere is that good. Didn't it have really amazing flashlight technology for the time?
By the way, I am an unapologetic Resident Evil 6 fan ? I love the story, the cinematography, the characters, and the fluid gun gameplay. Many say it's just a bad game. Some say it's a fine action game but Resident Evil in name only. I say it is exactly was Resident Evil always was to ME: a cheesy over-the-top B-movie action game.
RE6 isn't my favorite of the series, but it's not as horrible as some say. My biggest issue was the length of the campaign. I played it co-op with a friend and it took us around 25 hours. We were both really ready for it to be over after like 15 hours in. x) The Mercenaries was really fun as always and it was even more awesome that the PC version had Left 4 Dead 2's cast. I was fine with the over-the-top story and action, it was way more engaging and a lot more fun than the snorefest that was RE5's story. I wish they would have kept the tone of RE4, but RE6's tone was good for the type of game they went for.
