PlayStation, and Nintendo (with the Wii U and 3DS), are not commiting to guarantee players' access to purchased digital games from their digital stores after they shut down.

This is yet another wrinkle in our glorious digital future.

The digital future, in particular for games, at it stands, looks all around like a bad deal, apart from convenience.

Digital downloads will be short-lived. We're rushing towards an all-cloud future. You will own absolutely nothing. This'll also kill piracy, something that's especially concerning to publishers since Denuvo has been made pretty much obsolete due to Hypervisor.

In all honesty I just see this as them throwing in the towel due to the fact they can't compete against the joys of emulation ::kefka-48

Microsoft is now develping agentic operating systems where you don't even control the computer, but interact with an AI agent that manages the computer.

Technological companies and extremely powerful economic interests are cooking up a world where we own absolutely nothing. Not the computer, not the console, not the smartphone, the car, the house and eventually not even our clothes. It's a sobering realization.

That's where it's all headed. I watched a Jensen Huang interview the other day regarding that. Some people aren't ready with how fast this is happening. There are still people who think it's 10-15 years away, however there's been 10-15 years of AI advancement made in just the past few years.

What a surprise! I already knew that buying games online could cause this, which is why I'm going back to buying DVDs and other physical items.Hey my friend from Portugal, if you have any more news just let me know.

Nvidia is powering much of this tech.
