GameCenter CX

Also I liked the side stuff like when they see rare games in specialised stores or arcades.

This made the show not just yet another game testing but a fully fledged love letter to video game
I love the segments. Of course the challenges are fun but the segments do a lot to break up the time and give the episode room to breathe, and I've been introduced to so many interesting games through the segments.

I remember some bud online complaining about these segments because he wanted the game itself but then why bothering watching it instead of a let's play?

It's like asking AVGN to only focus on the game and never have these anecdotal/technical explanations of various things around the game he's testing.

What I loved is how he explained with simple words how a game's inner mechanic worked and the context around a game's release (like the Atari game where you could have won solid gold treasures in Swordquest: Earthworld).

This looks fun! Might check it out later.

What a fun series! Arino has the patience of a saint (for the most part::lol)

I haven't seen GCCX since they chased it off YouTube when that DVD boxset came out. My understanding is that it took out most of the non-game segments and some episodes are heavily altered as a result. It's like the soul is missing so it's hard to recommend the show to somebody if they're only going to watch the official release.

That's nuts! Why would those segments get cut?? Dude would go to arcades and stuff and play crane games and do gacha, it was a great way to pace the episodes. That's a real shame to find out.

He's talking about the English DVD set. The segments got cut for the same reason that they're cut from the Japanese DVD sets: licensing. They need permission to put those segments on the DVD release, just as they need permission to put the challenges. Usually some of them will get included as extras on the DVDs but otherwise the DVD version is different from the broadcast version as they just focus on the challenges and anything else (segments, interviews, bonuses, etc) are extra features. This is also why they released a "Tamage Special" DVD (a whole dvd dedicated just to that one segment). But the English DVD cut them entirely. The English DVD did a lot wrong though, Kotaku had gold handed to them on a silver platter and they really fucked it up.

But it happens to games too. Some challenges have never made it onto DVD or were put on DVD very late because of licensing. For example, the Actraiser episode is from 2005 but that challenge didn't get released on DVD until the most recent box set.

Never expected that many people to not know gamecenter cx. I’m sure there were a bunch of clips that became memes lol. Also I can’t be the only one who wants a crossover between Shinya Arino and James Rolfe. 🕹️
