Live a Live is the granddaddy of all these type of games.

Eiyuden Chronicles is the spiritual successor to the Suikoden series, so checking out Suikoden 2 would be a good idea.
I'm big fan of Suikoden 5/4/2
hmmm I well try it ( Live a Live)

Besides the games already mentioned, you should pick up dragon quest 2D HD trilogy!
not that big of fan of DQ

Like the story is sooo shonen to the point of becoming predictable and boring IN MY OPINION.

Octopath was made with a fair bit of similarity to the SaGa games, like Romancing SaGa on the Super Famicom or SaGa Frontier on the PSX. Might scratch that itch for Octopath Traveler. and there's a recent remake of Romancing SaGa 2 that I've heard good things about.

Suikoden was already mentioned, the first two in particular are what Eiyuden Chronicles was intended to resemble, so the upcoming Remaster in a few months might be of interest too.

Ohhh!! I played this on my ps4! It’s really unique.

There is a game that caught my attention; it is called Grand Knights History. I have never heard of it, but the style is fantastic.

I'm glad you can enjoy Octopath. I wish I could, really, but I can't get past the horrible visual dissonance I feel looking at it. I do think you might enjoy Romancing Saga, in principle.

It has a kind of follow up called Grand Kingdom, or if you're digging what that company (Vanillaware) is putting down, their most recent game, Unicorn Overlord!, might be right up your alley.

Its too new to be in the Repo of course.

Anything Vanillaware is a feast to the eye. Hard to pass on. More often than not, they manage to stuff a good game inside all that beauty, too.

You know what's funny
I have only 7 hours in gameplay
I didn't like gameplay direction.

If it makes you feel any better, I could not make any progress in OT either. 😅

I mean, I can't look at it, I'm serious. I hate this whole "2DHD" buzzword thing they came up with. It should be called 2DUD, ugly definition. Only now with DQ3Remake does it look actually good.

You don't put untreated sprites besides super high definition upscaled backgrounds, much less with that insane amount of ridiculous post processing.

Maybe give Star Ocean 2 R (the remake of Star Ocean 2) a shot. The art style reminds me a bunch of Octopath's and the gameplay is solid.
I really wanna get into Star Ocean games
someone recommend to start with psp remakes than the ps2 games
Is this correct

2DUD LOL, that’s very creative.

My personal take, but yeah, the PSP remakes hold up really well. There are more advanced remakes these days, and they change stuff around, but I don't like how they look, so it's up to you. SO3 is... ehhn... I haven't played anything past 3.

You can skip the PSP version of SO2 and go to the remake if you'd like since the remake got some QoL features the PSP version doesn't. IF you want to start with SO1 then the PSP version is a good idea.

It can be used in a complementary way, but I agree a lot of games overdo it with the postprocessing effects.

I'd suggest the Valkyrie Profile series, specifically 1 & 2. In terms of narrative, looks, good music & gameplay depth, it's pretty similar in overall mood & what you want from a game. There's even an emphasis on recruiting multiple characters if party customizing is your thing.
Now I'm not saying they'll be exactly the same, but at the very least, by playing Valkyrie Profile you'll be treated to a genuine good story & some pretty addicting gameplay. VP2 in particular is also one of the best looking games on the PS2.

Yeah VP is a gem. I never played 2 much, though. Glad it holds up. I like Covenant of the Plume too, even though the style is completely different.

The Last Remnant is a good one, albeit it's very arcane. It's basically a SaGa game hidden in a different label. Unfortunately the Steam version was delisted in favor of a pretty average "Remaster" version for Switch, PS4, and X360, and there was not a PC port. If you can find the PC port (check the usual places like steamunlocked), I'd strongly recommend it, because you can make use of TLRPlanner, a trainer tool that, amongst other quality of life benefits that you can optionally enable, also allows fixes for a bunch of bugs in the game that do hamper the play experience, such as the Mystic Focus bug.

The game also has an uncommonly good localization for a niche game! For example, the protagonist was basically raised by wolves and, while they're a nice person, they don't know a lot of social niceties, so they have a verbal tic where they don't use honorifics. This comes up very quickly when he starts addressing his patron, Marquis David Nassau, as "David" instead of "David-sama"; the localization changes this to the diminutive "Dave", which is a really smooth way of carrying the connotation into a language without honorifics.
