There's quite a few game series that I find interesting that I've yet to check out. I love Final Fantasy and Mana, but I've ignored other Square Enix series, to my shame. But, I intend to play them! They are:

Star Ocean
SaGa
Ogre Battle/Tactics Ogre
Front Mission
Valkyrie Profile
Dragon Quest

As for Nintendo, I really want to check out the WarioWARE games. They look so fun!

What are some game series you haven't played yet, but plan to?

Mount & Blade

A long time ago for some reason its first game interested me and after a blink of an eye they spammed lots of games (I really don't know how much) and one of my close friends really likes the series and especially the last game a lot or something but I wanna give proper respect to the series and start from the 1st game (despite I can directly jump to the latest game).

The legend of heroes or is it called trails? I'm not to sure. Trails in the Sky just got a remake that i plan to jump into when i have the time. Bit the series is so gigantic that it is a bit scary lol

Breath of fire would be another one, The 4th instalment on the PSX still looks incredible. Also still have the lunar remasters on the switch which i wanted to play ages ago.

Hard to believe but i haven't gotten into Pokemon , Tales of , Dragon Quest and Xenosaga yet.
Oh yeah i need to try out xenosaga and xenogears at some point.

I would like to try "Saga Frontier 2" because I like the graphics similar to "Legend of Mana"; I only tried a demo of a more modern saga game on switch and a few hours of a saga title on ps2 (found them difficult and frustrating), I'll see if SF2 plays a bit different.

I'm very interested in Ninja Gaiden reboot as I already played Ninja Ryukenden games but... the problem is... that Itagaki forced the team to delete the source code of the games that he worked and trapped in OG Xbox and Xbox 360 while Sigma are inferior versions(and Sigma 2 is awful while Black 2 is just Sigma 2 with gore and in Unreal Engine 5)

7th Dragon, heard is more or less Etrian Odyssey with Dragon Quest Overworld
If I remember correctly, the 7th Dragon 2020 titles have a modern settings (future Tokyo?); I think the DQ overworld would apply to the first ds title, I have it in my backlog with the patch here on the repo.

Now that I'm entering a mecha obsession (Gunplas and everything), Super Robot Wars looks really good and dense, as well as a good source for checking mecha animes, on that note I can bundle Armored Core and Front Mission as well.

Keeping it similar, I also want to fully dive into Disgaea, I don't care if I explode from grinding. (I was never a fan of grinding, except if it was about rails and hedgehogs kek)

Perhaps Kingdom Hearts and Yakuza, I definitely have stuff to keep me busy for years. ::nervous-prinny

Where did you hear that Itagaki forced Team Ninja to delete the source code? There is almost nothing I have ever seen or heard that says anything of the sort and as far as I'm aware both him and Team Ninja have not commented publicly on any such matter. The reason they port the Sigma games over the originals is most likely just internal politics regarding Itagaki's explosive departure back in the day, some part of their court settlement forbidding further ports of the games (highly unlikely) or the most likely answer of Team Ninja preferring /their/ versions of the games as the definitive ones.

I'm gonna be honest with you, anyone telling you not to play Sigma 1 is being waaaaay too picky. There are people who will tell you to only play Ninja Gaiden Black as if it's the only version of 1 worth playing and it is a very silly, purist mindset. The original 2004 release is way cheaper ($10 as opposed to $40ish) and is still an amazing game that unless you've already played Black you won't even recognize the differences to know what you're missing out on.

Sigma is arguably just as good as Black but in its own ways. It removed some of the "puzzle" elements of the original, but most puzzles in NG:B boiled down to reading a sign that said "go collect this thing here" and the fetch quests felt more like padding than anything. Some underwater sections in the midgame were trimmed down and considering they're usually seen as the jankest/worst part of the original I can't say I miss their uncut versions. Some sections like chapter 2 were expanded upon, with a fight that was relegated to a cutscene now being an ultra hard optional encounter of sorts. The Rachel segments are certainly not my favorite and are ultimately my least favorite part of Sigma, but she's not terrible to play and her missions are pretty short at the end of the day. In terms of gameplay balance, most of the changes are so minor that only hardcore players will really notice.

Even if I was the biggest Ninja Gaiden Black stan on the planet I'd have to admit that if Black is a 10, Sigma is like a 9 or a 9.5 at worst. Plenty of people also prefer Sigma to Black so clearly that version has plenty of merit. If it is the only version you can play, absolutely try it out and you will not be disappointed. If you do end up disliking Sigma you are almost guaranteed to have disliked Black as well because the games are so similar. The only thing that would be a dealbreaker in Sigma but not in Black is if you absolutely hated playing as Rachel to the point that even her 3 short missions were just too much.

Sigma 2 on the other hand is definitely its own thing. I still think the game is fun, but it is undeniably a super different experience due to the way that enemy counts and enemy HP were handled. I've seen footage of the original running on Xenia (360 emulator), and it looked pretty damn solid, with some people even completing entire playthroughs via emulation. This user posted their settings and build after competing a run.

  1. Suikoden
  2. Virtua Fighter
  3. Shadow Hearts
  4. Rachet and Clank
  5. Ty the Tasmanian Tiger
  6. The Bouncer

These are the few i'm curious about, especially #1

unreal.
never gave it much attention as i was more into quake, but i'd love to give all games a shot some day because they look cool.
I played all and I can say only Unreal Tournament 2004 is what I would recommend especially because of its awesome physics engine that sadly newer games couldn't make it proper. It's just addicting to kill people with Flak Cannon and watch them roll over everywhere lolol. Actually this game's demo was so fun I ended up only playing the demo for decades with bots, same as Battlefield 2 lolol.

Langrisser/Growlanser. I love the artstyle. One of these days I need to look up the best way to explore the series. There's quite a lot and iirc not all of them are even translated.
They are two different series with different gameplay styles, although they were created by the same team.
For Growlanser, 2 & 3 came out together in the West as "Growlanser Generations". 4 came out via the PSP expanded port "Wayfarers of Time". And 5 came out on the PS2. That leaves 1 & 6 still untranslated.
IMO, the best is 4, on the PSP. I think it's an extremely overlooked game with a great battle system and a solid story. I'd say start with this one or 3, as they have self-contained stories. 2 is different from the rest as it doesn't have towns you can walk around in, just combat, story scenes and menus between battles. It's also a sequel to 1 taking place some years later so there are lots of references. I haven't played 5 yet.

Langrisser is solid, but more traditional SRPG gameplay, from the real creators of the genre (NCS/Masaya made SRPGs before Fire Emblem existed). There are lots of versions of 1 & 2 in English - 1 is on Genesis (as Warsong), there's a Korean PC remake with an English translation, and some mobile remakes. 2 is on Genesis, mobile, and there's an expanded remake on SNES called Der Langrisser with additional story routes (though it changes some things and is a lot easier). I think only one of the other games is translated, probably IV, and there two legit untranslated entries. I beat one version of each, solid stuff. Later games not developed by Career Team/Career Soft are generally considered awful.

There are several series I’d like to get into more, especially ones I already know a bit about. But one series I know absolutely nothing about is Persona.

Modern persona (4 & 5) is essentially JRPG with dating elements. If you are familiar with any JRPG, you will like Persona i think.

I personally never played rogue-like games like Hades but people keep talking about it so..

Also Castlevania.
