Once every couple of years I search the internet for an undub of Galerians on the ps1. This game has been described before as a mix between earlier Resident Evil and Akira and I suppose it's a good way to put it in one sentence. The english voice acting is not to my liking so I really wanted to play it with the original audio...
So I was digging around again the other day and found this link on some reddit thread and pretty much nowhere else:
github.com
I fired up a virtual machine and utilized this (never run github code from people you don't know on your main OS). It yielded three (3) xdelta files, one for each US disk of the game. I then applied said patches to the US version of the game via the xdelta patcher and played a little bit, using duckstation. From what I can tell so far the game seems to be properly undubbed with subtitled fmvs. (I haven't tested the entire thing and I won't get to do so properly any time soon because work.)
It's an interesting patch. In order to use it you need both the US and the JP versions of the game. You also need jpsxdec (PS1 audio/video converter) and galsdk (by the same dude who's made this patch). It uses galsdk to extract assets from the games and jpsxdec and ffmpeg to insert subtitles into the videos.
I don't know why the dude hasn't made more noise about this patch in particular and why he hasn't just uploaded the xdelta patches somewhere instead.
If you decide to try this, as with everything else on the internet, use caution and common sense (and a virtual machine) when running software you downloaded from the internet.
I decided to make this post, since I haven't seen anyone talk about or test this undub.
