I enjoy a good bit of comedy in my games from time to time, so I was wondering: what were some of the games/game franchises that people personally find the funniest? I'm mostly thinking intentionally funny, but feel free to mention any games that you found unintentionally hilarious.

I quite like World of Final Fantasy as a mostly comedic take on FF, and I also find Yakuza/Like a Dragon & Disgaea to be pretty consistently humorous.

1) Radiata Stories

The game is not a comedy game but let's say because certain characters are not normal game loves to make fun of them including the character you play as. In that regard the games' sense of humor resembles Naruto which an interesting dots to connect is the voice actress of the character you play as the Naruto's voice actress lol, but they really didn't care to make the game seem like Naruto whatsoever.

2) God Hand

The game is comedy alright that uses exaggerated humour in every chance it gets so it's usual that your character asks his opponent to come towards an open window and the guy obeys and then your guy kicks his opponent to the space just for the lolz of it lol.

3) Mother and Metal Max games

Their humour are same style yet hard to explain. Let's just say they use a sense of humor that shows the BS aspect of life in a wacky way yet it touches upon deep facts about real life.

4) Yakuza: Like a Dragon

I take it as great parody that makes fun of JRPGs, Japanese society and world in general.

5) Way of the Samurai games

The series about "making decision simulator" to enjoy lots of routes you can take and then enjoying lots of endings. However game itself made with sense of humor that always finds a way to make fun of anything the game can lol.

6) Root Letter

A point and click adventure + visual novel hybrid video game about an ordinary guy investigating "something" and by doing so he forces people to talk in a funny way. He enters into a rush mode that he decides if people BS or not and he put words into the mouths of people in a funny way lol. However the game is either funny or horror depending on your route!!!

7) Kenka Bancho series

It's about bully high schooler kids fighting with each other. This series makes fun of the BS mentality they live their life for lol.

8) Disaster Report 3

Depending on your choices the game turns into a very funny earthquake parody game lol.

I guess these are all the games that I like for their sense of humor.

I think I've got some new recommendations there.
God Hand is pretty great. I remember playing that a little while ago.
I don't know much about Metal Max. I've always wanted to try it out.
I'm a pretty big RPG fan in general, so I really do enjoy Yakuza: Like a Dragon parodying almost all the most famous RPGs.
Disaster Report in general feels a bit underrated. I've only played the one with the flood and the one with all the licensed Japanese characters, although that was only in Japanese so I had no idea what was going on. I guess that's humorous in its own way hehe

God Hand, obviously. Killer is Dead is also written as a satire, I'm pretty sure.

Most David Cage games play as 'funny games' despite being made to be taken seriously lol

The Bard's Tale is a PS2 (rather) hidden gem and a funny one as well. Destroy All Humans is also quite humorous in tone and presentation.

You'd think somebody pissing their pants in every MGS game is supposed to be intentionally funny, right? People nitpick that nobody mentions stuff like that when they wax lyrical about Kojima's greatness BUT it's an established Japanese trope apparently. (and If you think it's unfunny take it up with the Japanese people but nonetheless: funny game(s)!)

Oh and to save the best piece for last, that weird virtual-pet Dreamcast game whose name escapes me at the moment is probably one of the funniest games ever made. For the relatively small group of people who have played it, anyways.

I don't know much about Metal Max.
Then I would recommend you to make your grand entrance to the series from this game lol:

So what I like about Metal Max beyond sense of humor?

1) Usually in RPGs you are the special "chosen one" but in this game you are a nobody who has no grand destination whatsoever, but you are just thrown like a trash that basically has no goal in life.

Then why to play it?: There is a story you may explore but it's more about your own adventure thing.

2) Usually in RPGs everyone is innocent "good" and there is "evil", in Metal Max everyone is evil. In that context even your "companions" would wish you dead and when you died they would gladly steal your stuff so no sense of JRPG generic element of "we are all friends and together we are strong!!!!". In Metal Max you can be stronger on your own.

In that context Metal Max is realistic take on how real life is in a dog-eat-dog world where your enemies sincerely and honestly hate you and your friends are two-faced wanna backstab you but they are only in it for whatever selfish gain they have in mind lolol.

In the end it's cool to have the best tank in the whole world and it's so satisfying to be strong enough to one punch destroy tanks lolol!!!!

My favorite lol:

Why it's so funny for me is the way GlaDOS is programmed to only care about puzzles therefore its sense of morality only in the context of what makes puzzles go okay and what breaks the puzzles so it cannot see how "bad person" it's by enforcing the BS puzzles like they matter. So oh the irony moment lol.

In later in the game and in 2nd game it make you realize why GlaDOS hates you is not because what you did to it, it's just because you don't care about the damn puzzles and you are going outside of what GlaDOS is programmed for. In surface it seems "yeah duh" but there is actually social criticism here.

People dislike you only when what you do is against of what they want you to do and outside of "what they can understand" despite they actually have no reason to hate you their demanding attitude due to their possessive tendency make them hate you when you don't care about living your life in the way they want. So in a way every people who couldn't grow up is just a GlaDOS and game further makes fun of it in 2nd game when despite GlaDOS "made smart" it's still an "idiot" because often people make themselves ignorant by focusing on binary subjective BS they enforce on themselves and others just to obey a rule just because without rules they would be in chaos lol.

In the end GlaDOS symbolizes any form of authority and in Portal context it's a country that eventually finds a way to "trash" you and in the end "salvation" of your character is being a "nomad" living in "nothingness" that also makes fun of "either way you are fucked in this life" lol.

So you are only a criminal in this world just because you broke a rule, not because you actually caused a harm for real because our current human civilization is a big complex mess of a baby just like GlaDOS lolol.

Oh, what a bleak picture you paint, but it's not far off, due to years of infiltration and propaganda/mind control. Not the Natural state of things at all

God Hand is pretty good. I need to get around to Killer Is Dead. I'm a big fan of No More Heroes and want to give KID a go.
Destroy All Humans is one I still enjoy.
I never found that much humour in MGS, but chalk that up to personal preference/cultural differences. Similarly, I was never too big on Akira Toriyama's style of humour.
Was that Dreamcast game Seaman? Or maybe it's another game that I'm not familiar with

Cheers for the recommendation! You sold me with one-punch tank hehe

'Turning tricks, huh? Nice!' hahaha that one still cracks me up every time. How is that game a thing? lol

Almost all the games made by Suda have humor weaved into the fabric. He's made some great games.
Killer 7, No More Heroes, Viewtiful Joe, all carry his unique brand of humor. He's very jovial in interviews himself.

Koji's sense of humor is evident throughout his work (see Policenauts for a pure, unadulterated Hideo experience before the man was buried beneath the legend). The cultural difference is a very real thing, but you can't tell me Snake dropping his cigarette in the middle of a dead serious conversation with Naomi in 4 and thus giving the player the opportunity/option to press R1 to try and look up her skirt is Kojima and the team being pervs lol It is obviously a joke implemented into the game coming directly from Kojima as a person cause he probably finds the notion funny. MGS games are nothing without their sense of humor, trust me. It would never be as big as it is if it was all plot dumps and long cutscenes and heavy subject matter.

And to bring a long post to a close, yes it is Seaman and yes puns are made on the very name.
But it's also a very underrated gem. I'm surprised there aren't more games like it cause it is such a cool idea. Like the creature would react to you in real time. Like it would refuse to talk for a few minutes and then crack a joke about why the heck would you want to play a game about weird sea creatures that don't even like you? lmao
In this day and age when everybody is constantly doing 3 things all at once I wouldn't mind playing a game you can leave running in the background and chat shit to occasionally lol

Anything from the Goemon series is absolutely hilarious, but particularly Mystical Ninja 64: Starring Goemon
I've never tried it Goemon. Might have to do some research

Suda can be a bit hit or miss for me, but I can usually still appreciate his unique style. I'm pretty interested to see how his collab with Swery, Hotel Barcelona, fares later in the year.

I like MGS for the most part, but I do agree with you to an extent. I kinda hate the dry politics aspect and info dumps. You do need humour to balance that out, I just don't think I see as much in said humour as other people. MGS does still have some other good stuff to balance out the drier aspects. Gameplay, strong characters & character dynamics and a lot of those "don't need to be in the game, but cool that it's there" kind of secrets that add depth.

I'd be interested to try a game like Seaman, but I get the feeling it's more of a "lightning in a bottle" type oddity. Not that I've played it myself, but I imagine it would be impossible to recapture that cult following.

"Chris Redfield, that boulder-punching asshole" (probably not the exact quote) hehe Yeah, Resi has some great comedy moments. Even without taking into account the rough VA of the original game.

Bully and Metal Wolf Chaos
Bully is a classic, and I thought I hadn't heard of Metal Wolf Chaos. Turns out I had heard of it, just didn't know what it was called. That game looks wild
