Front-Mission-2-jpn-psx-coverart.jpg

A translation effort that builds on top of the Front Mission 5 Team's version to cover what that version could not. It is considered 90% done and fully playable from start to finish. All that seems to be left untouched as of now are certain graphical elements from the UI.

Author(s): Grand_Veterinarian68
Type: Translation
Version: 1.0
Date: 30th of June, 2026
Status: Playable
Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/frontmissi...elease_front_mission_2_translation_extension/

RB's Notes 1: If you are using Duckstation (you should), in order to preserve your sanity, tweak this particular game's settings so that the CD seek speed setting is set to maximum, otherwise, look forward to almost 8 seconds of waiting before battle animations load for every engagement.

RB's Notes 2: MTL regards only descriptions and is placeholder. Text will be either human translated or sourced from the remake going forward.

Thanks, I'll add the tag, I suppose. But I will absolutely lock the thread if this derails into nonsense.

Edit: For those wondering about Eboots: I'll add it once the author finishes all the rounds of polish they intend to do.

That's because Amano style portraits with futuristic games is like like oil and water, really.
Hi, I noticed a new patch update with bug fixes. Would it be possible for you to upload the updated ROM file?

It's really fixed the map briefing bug in this Saribash's house, right?
I think the link to the file here wasn't updated yet. I can only update the Mediafire link.

Hotfix #1
- Fixed a crash during the map briefing in Saribash's house.
- Changed some newline placements and text formatting.
The archive was updated.

Could you please change the status from "Fully Playable" to "Needs Testing" or something similar? I didn't realize there were still some bugs that occur in very specific cases that I missed.

The creator just updated Read me file with this:

So it seems the game is partially machine translated which is a shame. I know some people wont care since it apparently just UI and text descriptions but I think its still important to point out. The phrasing implies it might be changed at a later date but who knows at this point.

I do think that this should be included in the hack description.

I dunno. The most important thing, the stompy battling robots, look rather good. But some other things like character portraits are lacking somehow.

For now, some descriptions and system text are translated using Google Translate and edited with the help of a dictionary.

Bookmarking this one. Been wanting to play it forever but I can wait till its completed and bugs are ironed out. Glad its being worked on again though.
I'll see if I can reproduce this crash.

Man, the translators been cooking this year! FM2 was on the top of my wishlist for years. The Square Enix remake got some pretty bad reviews for supposedly using machine translation so I never tried it. I'll give this one a shot.

It's not so much that as it is, what's the point? Chances are if you even know what Front Mission is you can set up a PS1 emulator and play the games, so there's really no reason to buy a remake unless it's a significant upgrade of some sort.
I see your point, but FM2R specifically was the only way to play the game properly until literally yesterday. Barring that, options never hurt.

You're free to have your opinion, but did you really expect a small AA studio on a shoestring budget to deliver mindblowing visuals? they are perfectly serviceable.

The remakes were done tastefully, especially considering SE saddled a small studio with handling one of their great franchises instead of doing it themselves. Wisely, the remake devs kept content parity with the original.

While divisive visually, I think they look great, except for the battle camera in FM1R; they chose a pretty deflating side view over a back view that already existed in the arena and more closely matched the SNES look.

... 😬

I've been waiting so long for this. I know the original translation has been available for a long time, but having to regularly consult a .txt file since most of the in-game test is untranslated just takes so much of the fun out of it for me.

Lately I've been begrudgingly forcing myself through the remake since I never expected this to happen and I'm so glad I can drop that version and finally just play the original now.

Nice! It's been a long time.
