For a handheld console that out in early 2000s. The PSP was ahead of its time, which is something DS never did, such as playing music and videos

The PSP was one of the very first handheld consoles Sony ever made, and honestly it had a very strong start because it sold very well about 80 million units. The PSP game Library is surprisngly good, and the fact they are amazing titles like God of War chains of olympus and Ghost of Sparta, GTA games of course, Daxter, and they even have freaking Gran Turismo on that thing, its not only that but the PSP versions that are pratically the same as the console counterparts tended to have exclusive content/some more features not found in the console versions despite the UMD capacity size(1.8 GB). Another postive about the PSP, is that you can also play movies and listen to music on there, which is something the Nintendo DS couldn't do which came out around the same time as the PSP, So for a handheld console the PSP is very ahead of its time because of that. I recently modded my PSP with 64gb micro sd adapter with a microsd card that came with the adapter i got on amazon for $20, and i been enjoying it alot. I wish PSvita could've at least got the same treatment as the PSP, because it seemed Sony had no idea with to do with Vita sadly, and that got discontinued in 2019 and thats a Damn shame because it had potenital. But anyways, What are your thoughts on the PSP.

It stands alongside the Gameboy Advance as one of the greatest handhelds ever made imo. The form factor is great (although I find it a little easy to accidentally hit the power switch during gameplay but I can get around that). Its own lineup of games is pretty deep and that alongside its ability to emulate PSX basically gives it a seemingly endless library of quality games.

The fact that it doubles as an MP3 player is also neat. I like using my PSP for that as well as games

PSP was good at being an ante litteram smartphone; The DS was great at being an handheld console

I'm not a man of handheld consoles, but PSP has so many amazing games that I got one just for its catalogue, and I love it! Mine is modded with 128gb, so I got hours and hours of PSP games and some PSX games too. I never used its other multimedia functions though, I always use my consoles just to play games.

Yeah, the PSP is an absolute classic. Still great even now honestly. Best of its handheld generation and I'd even argue it outshines the PS Vita in some respects.

The only things I have difficulties dealing with these days are how slow the charging is with Ostent batteries and USB chargers, and the lower battery life compared to contemporary devices. I'd use mine a lot more if those two issues could be solved.

Well, TECHNICALLY you could play music on the Nintendo DS with a Play-Yan, Play-Yan micro or Nintendo MP3 Player. And I believe one of the Play-Yan models was also able to play video.

Sure, they were GBA cartridges, not DS ones. But they could be used with the original DS and the DS Lite, so I say that counts.

Loved the PSP so much I got two. Heh. Well I got the original phat model and then a slimmer one that still had the UMD drive. I never cared about the GO model. The og model is the one I put some custom firmware on just to run oldschool emulators. It was a real hoot to play Donkey Kong Country on it or some other nintendo games. I'd pass it around with friends while we'd watch hockey on tv or something. This was 2009? I used the GTA: Liberty City Stories exploit.

As for what the PSP could just do initially, I didn't know anyone buying UMD movies though that was an option. I liked ripping youtube videos off the internet and then converting them to a format the PSP could play. A lot of good games too. It felt like a portable PS2 just without the dual sticks and instead a nubby flat stick. That was odd but it did what it needed to do mostly.

I think the battery still works ok on the newer model, I just honestly don't use them much anymore. AFAIK the OG one with the CFW I played it in a rainstorm a long time ago because I was feeling indestructible like I thought the system was too and it still works but there are some problems with the d-pad working precisely....

I have a lot of great memories of the PSP and it was really buying a lot of PSP games just hacking it only to run SNES9X on it because I don't think there was a Zsnes emulator haha
