The one and only thread to talk about "that one game where you kick the ball with your foot" (AKA Football/Soccer!)
The national sport of my homeland, Iraq!
Where we kick footballs, score goals, and have endless disputes on who's the best team!

okay now i am in the right thread!

Played from age 4 to 16. I messed around a little with it in Germany while I was in the military. Unfortunately life events and personal issues got in the way of pursuing it further. I would spend hours juggling and doing drills at home in the back yard when I was young. I played in 2 leagues at one point spending Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday at practices or games. My funnest times were indoor Soccer. I played at a complex call Glen Ayre in Illinois. Fun times.

What are your guys thoughts on the Club World Cup? Any europeans here?
It's been a blast for me, personally. Not only because my team beat Chelsea, but because most games are being fun to watch.

It's a bit of a Mickey Mouse competition! (i.e just another excuse for FIFA to make more money and a dress rehearsal for America for next year's World Cup). But it's always funny seeing Chelsea lose ::rofl

I think it'll get more interesting in the knock out stages once all the shitter teams have gone home.
Some of the match ups between the best of South America vs Europe could be great! Especially with the potential contrast in playing styles and that they also rarely play each other

A potentially interesting competition... but one that is undermined in its foundations.

A portion of teams that have finished the championship, another portion that has already started or is halfway through the season.
A competition that is played in a country that snubs football and that does not have stadiums with covers for the fans, forcing them to abandon their seats for 2 drops of water.
Not to mention the European teams - except for Paris Saint-Germain, winner of the Champions League - that have snubbed this competition enough, seeing instead the South American and even the overseas teams give their best.
And then, the less we talk about how much money these teams make, the better...

The European Super League concept, ladies and gentlemen. Only, in a big way. And camouflaged.

Surely the Champions League is now the Super League in all but name and hiding in plain sight!
(With the 36 team league replacing the old group stage format). I'm surprised more people didn't kick up a fuss about it! Not that UEFA would've listened as they're just as money grabbing and corrupt as FIFA!
Makes me laugh that PSG finished 17th in that league yet still went on to win it 🤦‍♂️

I don't think it'll happen but I hope Fluminense win the Club World Cup, just to shut the other 3 teams up!

And RIP Diogo Jota 🙏

Kvaratskhelia...

Maybe you are confusing it with Tottenham Hotspur, who won the Europa League finishing 17th in the Premier League.

This year PSG has dominated both in Europe and in France - unfortunately we Napoli fans know this well, having sold one of our best players to them in January... Kvaratskhelia...

I'm talking about PSG finishing 17th in the group stage of the Champions League!!
(Admittedly they did totally annihilate Inter in the final).

PSG will always dominate Ligue 1 with all their Qatari money. It's probably the worst league out of the top 5 European leagues so there's not a lot of competition for them. Ironically it took losing Mbappe, Messi and Neymar for them to finally win something big.

Must be tough to lose Kvaratskhelia, he's looks really good! McTominay's done well for you this season and maybe Debruyne will next season

In 2004 took place the semi-final of "La Copa Libertadores de América" [Its like the UEFA Champions League of Europe]. The teams were River Plate vs Boca Juniors, the eternal rivals of Argentinian soccer[to give you an idea is like Real Madrid vs Barcelona, Milán vs. Inter, etc.]. The semi-final was set up to be a 2 match encounter, one in each local stadium, and due to the strong rivalry between the two team as well as their fans it was stablished that no visitant fans will be allowed, this meant to make one team in each match being without the support of their fans and the constant antagonizing chants from the rival crowd.
This semi-final is so memorable for me because it was like a battlefield. I wass from River Plate and my nerves and anxiety were high. River ended loosing by penalties and I felt such impotency that I shared some tears, that much I was attached to my favorite team. Nonetheless they are one of the best soccer matches I've ever seen.

Here is a video "movie" style of those two historic matches if you are interested:

Also check how Matt Damon got to know about a River-Boca match. The comments are fun:
Gringo: The most crazy thing I have ever seen in my life
South Americans: A normal sunday...

Oh, you're right, my fault.
