Was wondering if it might be worth adding another section to "other interests" for food & cooking related discussions? ::thinking

If the time/financial cost of implementing one would outweigh its usefulness, that's cool. Just a suggestion ::chocobo-wave

Plus, I thought a dedicated cooking section could also have threads regarding weird/interesting snacks you might see in the supermarket/grocery store, cooking TV shows and their hosts, as well as any fun or interesting cook books. Stuff like that.

You shouldn't use olive oil for a stir-fry or anything with sustained high temperatures, it breaks down. I guess if you are really skilled and manage the heat you can make that work and still get that flavor out of it, as I have seen some chefs use it on the stove for some things, but that's why I pretty much only use peanut oil: I'm lazy as fuck and peanut oil can take the highest of temperatures with its smoke point.

idk, that's always what I have been told: not to pan fry with olive oil.
I use olive oil when breaking down the paste for my green curry. It looks a bit dicey to start with, like the oil splits and that's bad I guess? I don't know. It all mixes together well by the time I've added the coconut milk & various vegetables, and it's finished cooking.

Ya, we have also had a fair share of those on here in the past.

I see that the idea is popular and getting folk excited, so I'll bring it up to the boss.

McDonald's requested a reason for why information was needed so @Waffles you are now a "content creator" who needs the business email to the mega McDonald's in Orlando Florida as a means of seeing what proper permission you need and what could be filmed or not upon a future visit. Congratulations

Nice, I'm sure that works fine. Even though olive oil is quoted as having a lower smoke point comparatively, any general cooking oil anyone would buy at a store (except EVOO) is going to be very refined nowadays so for most applications, I wonder how much it really matters... I think deep frying is the only extreme case were you really should only be using as high smoke point as you can.

But like I said, I really don't know. I just always use peanut to play it safe and it has a neutral taste anyway, so it can't really screw anything up.

A cooking section would be very welcome and would be rather cool to share recipes and the like.

For myself, I tend to currently use a budget recipe website to find some lower cost meals to make for the folks at home which generally work well but have a number of picky eaters plus another with a food sensitivity so it can be tricky. I'm always looking for some new things to throw into the rotation.

Because of let's say "current events" I probably shouldn't bring up, a cooking forum would be good for struggling RGTers caught in this mess. I heard that cooking can stretch your money a long way.

I mean, I wouldn't call myself a chef or anything. So there probably is some aspect of me using oil in that way that I'm not considering. It all seems to come together fine enough in the end::cirnoshrug
