Flight action, somewhere between Shmups and Flight SImulators. A Genre kinda lumped into around for lack of visible identifiers. But when you play them you do see some.
A Flight action game is a game where there is flight, but more focused on looking cool as opposed to realism. THis avoidance of realism makes their lumping with Simulators like Microsoft FLight SImulator, X-Planes or DCS very unwarrented. But they are not on rails like classic Star Fox or Space Harrier games.

It's not all just one franchise, but the well is only starting to refill. Older games like Airforce Delta, Aero Elite, Sidewinder and Sonic Wings Special do show some love. WW2 get some hype with Secret Weapons over Normandy, Blazing Angels and Birds of Steel. You even see steampunk and alt history like Crimson skies and Skygunner(a personal favorite)

I just want to talk about flight action games, and maybe you played a few of mission in Ace Combat 5 on a PS2 demo disk?

The only ones I've played are M.A.C.H: Modified Air Combat Heroes, and Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere.

Played ALL the Ace Combat games. Even completed the awful H.A.W.X. games lmao.
Want to play something INSANE from the genre?
Project Wingman is one of the GOATS, up there with the BEST Ace Combat (Zero).
Careful, your eyesight might become orange for a few days.

The Fansub version of Ace 3 or the international version?
The Fansub, cause I heard that a lot of content was removed from the international release.

It wasn't a little, the whole story barely makes sense in the Eu/USA versions. It was a full disc of content scrapped.
Like a Tales of game getting ALL of the banter between characters removed.

I love SkyGunner in this genre, super underrated game. It's very arcadey. I also loved After Burner Climax on PS3, which was sadly delisted and hasn't been ported anywhere else.
