Referring to the anime tie in game and not the movie tie in game.

First time playing Astroboy for the PS2, just fought first boss, I wanna say regarding the controls, Sonic Team sure went a long between this and Sonic Frontiers because the fight with Giganto would've sucked with these controls
Not to sound negative but so far most of the time I'm flying through blue rings across Metro City, I don't wanna make the comparison but the jokes write themselves, game's decent so far though, controls grew on me and it's got a certain charm but you can feel it's low budget.

I absolutely adored this game in my early teens, I loved the 2003 Astro Boy series and I loved both of it's tie in games.

The GBA game is considered S-Tier on the GBA, not much I can add to that. I will say though, that the charm of the ps2 game is off the scale. If you adjust to the controls and gameplay style, not unlike sonic adventure 1 in this way actually, it's can be great in ways.

Especially the soundtrack. Lives rent free in my head to this day and whenever I got the urge to play the game it was always the music and charm of the aesthetic that brought me back to it.

It's also very short, maybe 5 hours and it is not replayable nor do it have branching paths like the GBA one, it's one and done.

The GBA game is S-Tier for sure!

I remember at the time I wanted to try out this game as I enjoyed the anime, but since I did not have a PS2 and this game did not come to neither XBox nor GC I had to settle with the GBA game, little did I know that the GBA game was really good, I quite enjoyed it, this is long before it was deemed online as a hidden gem, I'm only now getting around playing the PS2 version, it's alright, I've adjusted to the controls fairly quick, so far I feel it has a certain 2000s charm if this makes sense but I also feel it's low budget especially coming from Sonic Team.

'03 Astroboy is the GOAT. Probably some of my favourite iterations of characters like Tenma, Atlas (though the 80s version is still probably the definitive incarnation) and Blue Knight. Best Pluto design, but it's a shame the Greatest Robot in World arc was only a 2 part episode instead of a full arc.

Spit that vitriol son, this game eats. It's like playing a bad Budokai Tenkaichi, but it's underwater. I can agree there is some potential at times, which makes it clear this was another victim of being a liscenced game that was rushed out the door to coincide with it's parent movie/show.

Your probably gonna see this posted 30 times over the course of this thread, but Omega Factor is a goddamn treasure (get it?) and its crazy to think that the 2009 PS2 game based off of the CG movie is actually just a carbon copy of it but in 2.5d

Never knew it had a ps2 game.

The GBA game was absolutely praised on release actually, at least within gaming journalism in the Uk and Europe, I was quite surprised with it's reception amongst critics back on release as most 2d style titles got absolutely thrashed outside of seemingly GB/GBA titles, I got it on release but the whole hidden gem thing maybe more likely that the logic at the time was a licensed game is absolutely shit tier by default, even though it was approaching 50/50 territory for brilliant or thrash for a licensed game upon release depending on whom worked on it. If we're honest too, it was likely the astro boy license was more likely to have people overlook an amazing game at the time since the 2003 Astro Boy series was easily the most mismarketed anime of the early 2000's, peak dragonball/pokemon/yugioh/digimon era and it was being shown at 7am saturdays or other similar abysmal timeslots.

Most x men games on the 16 bit and the capcom arcade era were all quality titles for example and it was when activision took over that they started getting more mixed, hitting that 50/50 mark again.

Strangely, this is my first time hearing about it, despite having friends into the anime and the console.

So I played the 2009 version for two hours, I went with the PSP version, looking online it seems the PSP version is identical to the PS2 and Wii versions (Wii looks visually slightly better?) but the DS version is a completely different game, will have to try that one sometime.

My initial impressions, I see what you mean by the 2009 game copying Omega Factor, but it feels very low budget, honestly I think the PS2 Sonic Team game a lot better, I feel I owe that one an apology, yes it's low budget but it has a certain charm, the 2009 version feels like what you expect from a western licensed game, it's playable (and maybe it will get good if I play more) but it honestly makes me wanna go and play the PS2 game instead.
