First official PS VITA 2 leak?

It seems that the recant rumours might have been true and the Sony was indeed making a new handheld.

An official Playstation channel has just released a video mentioned "PSV2" as one of the game's consoles, along the PS4, PS5 and PS VR2.

If it is true, it also suggests that it may likely be named "Vita 2" in it's early stage, with a release date coming up soon.

What are your thoughts?

If it's true they should have called it PSP 2 instead of playstation vita 2, you know, the PSP sold like 6 time more than the vita so it makes sense to call it like a successor of their most successful portable console

I don't know. I'd be very sceptical of them calling it the Playstation Vita 2 just because the Vita didn't really leave a shining legacy outside of a niche. Shareholders don't feel confidence with niche followings. They'd be more likely to call it something completely different I'd think.

Well, the Vita is called "PSP2" in all of it's internal files. As it was named during the development.

So it is likely that the new console wouldn't actually be named "PSV2" on release. It's also why it probably won't be called "PSP2" either.

My bet is it's a typo.

The person probably wrote "No Man's Sky - Breach Update Trailer | PS5, PS4, and PSV2 "... and checked "dude how the fuck we should write this PS virtual reality shit" and then they wrote the correct one before the "and" and forgot to delete the typo one lol.

How this can't be a typo? a company can't announce the release of a console before the maker of the console itself, it makes no sense and it does not deserve any more attention.

Not that I'll counter attack and defend "it's not typo" but within a company a product that is about to be announced can be popular for years enough to distort their reality and don't consciously notice the product is not announced yet and that's partly why sometimes name of products accidentally being announced sooner than it's intended via unrelated ways. It's not like it didn't happen before. But on the other hand PS Vita was never called "PSV"/"PS V" so calling its 2nd console "PSV2" doesn't make sense due to another reason too: It is easy to mix it up with "PSVR2" and this is why Sony would avoid calling PS Vita 2 "PSV2".

As stated above Sony, well the Vita was, as the old saying goes "The red-headed stepchild of the family" and they didn't particularly care about it.... Hell, they didn't care that much about the PSP honestly, more so than the Vita, but that's not the point.

Most likely, they would pull an Xbox and call it the "Whatever company is making it" Playstation handheld, like Microsoft is doing with the ROG Alley Xbox handheld. But the name could just be a placeholder until it's finalized.

My uncle works at Sony so I know Sony gave their full support for developing visual novels on such a performance beast + relatively easy to develop games on handheld console for its time that they called PS Vita but I call it "PS Mors" lolol.
