Romhack Fire Emblem Eislinn’s Last Sunset

Eislinn’s Last Sunset is a Fire Emblem Fan game (I tag this as a Romhack because Fan game category doesn't exist) It runs on a EXE. files and doesn't require a emulator or rom of the original game to play you just need to dowload in it's page on FE universe, it initially came out in 2023, but this current build is from December of 2024

Gameplay

This game is very short being only 5 chapters long, and can be easily beaten in 2 Hours, while this is a fan game, it's gameplay is heavy derived from GBA Fire emblem, however here there are some major difference from other FE games , first the stats here are extremely low, none of the stats of my party went above 10 outside of HP, in the case of HP it never went over 20, another thing that difference this game from other Fire emblem is that each character has a main weapon with infinite uses , and over the course of the game you gain new weapons with limited use (Tho more than enough to use them for the rest of the game), similar to modern Fire emblem game each character has a personal skill the difference them from the rest of the party.

Just so you have an idea of how low the stats of this game are the protagonist here (Which is arguably the best character of this game combat wise , I like him in the story too) has this stats on level 4, as a point of comparison this is Ephraim (Protagonist of Fire emblem 8) at the same level, you can see his stats are higher.

Normally when people play JRPG they think higher numbers is equal to a better game, but I love that this game takes a different approach, with extremely low numbers, the difficulty here is excellent in my opinion , I have play every Fire Emblem game from 4 to 11, and some rom hacks, and the difficulty here felt perfect never too easy but never too hard either, each chapter feels unique and challenging but never overwhelming (outside of the last level but that was intentional).

I love when short games add great replay value, so you can enjoy it for awhile and beat it multiple times, this game adds 2 system to incentivize replay , the first is a built in achievement system with 50 different achievements, and the second is alternative modes that changes how the game is played like reverse recruitment which reverse the order of character you get, I love this type of replay value, because it give perfect excuses to replay the game again, but it doesn't feel like you are missing something important if you chose to ignore it.

For me one of the few flaws this game has is the fact that if you chose to play this game with a controller you can change the control scheme , Because the left analogue is your method no navigate the menus and move character which I don't like in a grid base game like fire emblem, so I stick with keyboard in this game.

Story

As you can imagine from a 5 chapter game it's not some big story with multiple characters , but it's very heart breaking, the story is about a group of children and their professor trying to escape from a city that's currently under the invasion of enemy army, I am not going to say more than that because of spoiler but as you can imagine, it's not sun shine and rainbows, pretty much the opposite, another feature of this story is flashbacks, as you do certain thing in a chapter you can gain sort cuteness exploring the background of the characters, giving glimpses of their past.

Visual and music

The visuals here are straight up GBA FE with some slightly changed UI elements, if you like it (Which most gamers do) you appreciate how this game looks, because this game is a Fan game, not a rom hack, the music here isn't constrained to be GBA music, which is great, I am not sure where the music of this game comes from, I am guessing it all original because I couldn't find them on YT, the music here is pretty good, it fits the games perfect and nice to listen.

Gameplay
This game is Fire emblem at this game, a low number chess RPG thing where each piece feels unique

Graphics
It's GBA FE, many people love to praise this art style and the amazing sprite work it normally has , this game is no different.

Story
If you don't like or don't to play games with a sad story , don't play otherwise this simple but emotional story will be a interesting read.

Sound
The music here is great, it might be a bit boring but that's my only complaint about it.

Replayability
A short game, with extra modes that unlock after beating the game and an achievement system is the perfect recipe for game game with perfect replay value

Overall
If you like Fire Emblem and want to give this Fan game a shoot, there's no reason not to play it, it's very short either way.
I haven't played this Fire Emblem Romhack from GBA but it looks very good to be especially in having a great map design, fair and balanced difficulty, good story, good music and excellent replayability which makes it great and by the way very good your review as always Ain. 👍🏻👍🏻
