I’ve spent years watching and rewatching Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. Every now and then I circle back — it’s like that universe pulls me in again and again. I actually finished my second full rewatch of the year yesterday. And today, after putting it off for ages, I finally sat down and watched El Camino for the very first time.

Man… what an experience.

The movie picks up exactly where Breaking Bad ends. That kind of direct continuation always hits me hard — like the world kept moving even while you stepped away. And there’s Jesse: wrecked, running, hollowed out. And who’s there to help him? Skinny Pete and Badger. Two absolute goofs, sure… but two real friends. Even with everything falling apart, they treat him with the same old loyalty. That opening stretch is my favorite part of the entire film. Simple, but it says everything that matters.

Then the film starts branching out: the hunt for cash, the flashbacks with Todd (creepy, tense, almost disturbingly human), Jesse trying to piece together whatever’s left of himself, and that desperate reach for a second chance at life. And in the end, Alaska shows up almost like a legend — the place where he can finally breathe without looking over his shoulder.

And the cinematography, man. The landscapes. The framing. The whole visual tone — totally different from the show, but unmistakably Vince Gilligan doing exactly what he wants.

And the cameos… damn. Mike, Walter, Jane. Short, but loaded with meaning. Each one feels like lighting a different candle inside the story. Beautiful stuff.

Funny thing is: when the movie first dropped on Netflix, I swore I’d never get spoiled. I kept saving it for “the perfect moment.” That moment never came. Until today — a random day, no ceremony, no big setup — I just sat down and watched it. And it instantly became one of my favorite films. I know I’ll rewatch it many times — anyone who loves this universe knows it always calls you back.
