Surprisingly good watch. Like somebody combined Galactic Express and FF into a 25 episode series.

The very first anime boxset I ever bought! I remember seeing it at the local comic shop in my hometown, and being the Final Fantasy nerd that I am, I just had to get it. The only FF anime I knew about at the time was Legend of the Crystals, so it was really cool to see that Unlimited was a thing. I hurried home and threw the first disc into my PS2...

...and ended up binging the whole damn thing! I thought it was cool how it started off in Japan, then boom, a train ride straight to a FF world called Wonderland. I remember the scene when Kaze first appeared, sitting all cool looking, and the badass Summoner gun he had. It did get a bit annoying every episode with the whole "Soil, is my power!" animation, but a lot of animes back then had that kinda thing.

I thought the villain was cool af, even if he was a spoiled brat. As well as the secondary antagonist, the swordsman with the white hair. I think my favorite character from the show is Cid, idk why but I just really like his design, plus he's a cigar man. I also really liked the Moogle.

Anyway, it's a really good anime and I think it's worth a watch if you like Final Fantasy. The dubbed version is on Youtube, here's a link to the playlist:

I love this one! I heard that there was supposed to be a second season. But the plans were all scrapped when Gonzo Digimation couldn’t or had a hard time securing the license to the IP after Squaresoft merged with Enix.

I watched Legend of The Crystals quite a long time ago and was very nonplused about it. It wasn't bad, though compared to the standard of the anime I was watching at the time and my expectations set by FFX I remember it being a lackluster experience. If you'd have asked me at the time I'd have said Spirits Within was better, mostly because of the L'arc-en-Ciel ending song. Now I wish I'd have watched Unlimited instead.

I wanna watch this, but it is hard to make a start knowing that it got cancelled before they could resolve the story. I only read a brief synopsis, so I might be wrong, but it seems like they ended up recycling elements of this story into the "World of Final Fantasy" spin-off game.

They did manage to finish the story, but it was a multi-media project involving novels, a manga and an audiobook. So basically, a mess. And after digging around for the past 40 minutes trying to find any of these things in English, I've given up.

So they did finish it, in theory hehe :loldog

I need to start keeping a list of all the cool stuff I want to watch/read/play, but can't find an official translation or fan translation for. I know that fruitless endeavour all too well, friendo hehe ::sailor-embarrassed

I actually have a list lol
Needless to say, all the FF Unlimited stuff has just been added. I still hope that one day someone can get the scans of the Final Fantasy 11 manhwa, The Out of Orders, and translate it.

It's quite sad they went for a longer series that never materialised. During the episodes we actually got, it seems they were just running down the clock. I still am somewhat fond of it. It's too bad it ended before we could run into Lucretia.

I just tried looking this character up but it only showed Lucretia from FF7... was it a character later used in one of the novels?

No. I'm just comparing Kaze to Vincent. He's also looking for a woman in this series.
On the other hand, the story does continue after these episodes in the form of drama CDs I believe. But I haven't listened to those.

Huh, I always only hear hate for this anime, that's cool that many here liked it. Honestly, it has been so long I can't entirely recall myself, but I do think I remember liking it because I remember thinking why so many had a big issue with it.

Also... BEST SONG WITH CHOCOBOS EVER ::heart Perfect music to go out and ride a chocobo to ::heart

This year, FFU celebrates his 25th anniversary. I watched few episodes years ago in YouTube, in a channel who is authorized to upload episodes for a limited time, and I like the series besides the low ratings the production have in his period. I studied that Final Fantasy Unlimited was scheduled to develop a sub-franchise of animes with Final Fantasy name under by an inspiration of the poorly US CG movie who premiered on cinemas in the same year(The Spirits Whitin). Due for the problems, the anime ended on episode 25, as TV Tokyo and Bones decided to create a basic 50 episode series.

Would be good Final Fantasy having his own anime continuity, and the anime market would be more variable today with many action animes besides the traditional Shonen Jump/Kodansha adaptations.
