Final Fantasy Thread

2026's Final Fantasy plans (where I'll accomplish probably half if not 1/4, knowing me...):
  • finish FFXIV with Endwalker (not necessarily the post-game, but I'll think about it)
  • XII Revenant Wings: loved the gameplay so much
  • XIII-2 and at least try Lightning Returns
  • VII: beat again Crisis Core with Reunion (amazing remaster that felt personally like a remake tbh) and be done with VII Rebirth
  • Crystal Chronicles: beat the original one (I have it since 2000s, liked it but wished I had someone to play it with) and play more of Crystal Bearers (game with lots of potential, especially on cinematics and presentation)
  • Tactics: good question...I would play Ivalice Chronicles but I did started WotL. Also there are Advance and A2...
...uh, and after that I feel I have done the most this franchise has to offer. There are some minor stuff, like Soul of Rebirth of FFII on PSP, the FFXVI DLCs that I haven't purchased and maybe 100% the Pixel Remasters of IV and V. Time will tell.

So Vs XIII is basically lost media like Kirby GCN which became the Wii game.

Technically the cancelled Kirby game got music and ideas (and, sure, I can imagine also assets) reused in later games, like the mentioned Wii one and the 3DS games. Super Kirby Clash had that trailer music.

I'd probably do Four Heroes of Light soon then continue FF Explorers.

Are the Bravely games basically what if classic FF was still a thing? What about Octopath?

And Star Allies took some elements as well.

On a side note: isn't Verum Rex the finalised version of Nomura's vision?

Is this me of 4HOL reminds me a ton of Etrian Odyssey in its style?

Some low poly 3D goodness on the DS as well.

I've been playing XIII these last couple of days. There's a lot of nostalgia for this one but not in the way you may think. I was ecstatic to play this game as a lil' dude but seeing all the hate and discourse it created sort of disrupted my perception. I did play it and was a bit confused with the paradigm shift mechanic so I never quite got into it.

But now after many years I've been thoroughly enjoying it. Making my own Paradigms and adapting the party in "real" time it's super fun. I think they were on the right track with this battle system, though I'm still early in the game so I won't comment further.

My only complains for this game boils down to 2 things:
I don't think they should grade your performance, some things out of your control. Or maybe you are doing a great job, but you take too long ::sailor-embarrassed

Their UI is very clean but sometimes it lacks enough information to convey confirmation. Sometimes I think I've queued an action but I didn't, the characters do an animation to signal this but with how hectics battle become, I think maybe toggling a different color to signal you've queued them would work.

The narrative relies so much on you knowing what the fuck they're talking about, I do have to read datalogs.

Damn it, you're right, there are also those games. 4 Heroes of Light became kinda expensive also, ugh. But I do have Explorers.

Bravely, SaGa, Seiken Densetsu etc. aren't Final Fantasy through and through, but their own things. If that's what you're implying.

That's why I'd emulate it or play it via a linker.

Explorers is nice for a handheld but I don't know if it's that good.

I meant Bravely Default not those other games.
Starting development as an action role-playing sequel to Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light, it retained elements from the Final Fantasy series while having its own story and gameplay elements. The producer of The 4 Heroes of Light, Tomoya Asano, returned to produce Bravely Default. The story's writer was Naotaka Hayashi, who was brought in from 5pb. due to his work on Steins;Gate. The characters designs were handled by multiple artists, including art director Akihiko Yoshida and mangaka Atsushi Ōkubo. The game was influenced by western video games and television series, and individual elements were inspired by aspects of the Dragon Quest series and Higurashi When They Cry. The music, composed by Revo of Sound Horizon, was intended to evoke the feelings of classic series such as Dragon Quest and SaGa.

Yes, apologies, what I've meant was "Bravely, just like any other Square Enix series that shares some FF elements, is its own thing and shouldn't be considered part of that franchise imo".

Got it.

I kinda wish FF went the Zelda route where classic 2D games coexisted with the bigger 3D ones.

just beat lich in final fantasy renaissance; took 2 rounds to beat him. i got the canoe and now i'm attempting the castle of ordeals.
got a screenshot of my current team.

for the most part thats what it looks like to be shaping up to be. what didnt end up in ff15 will probably be in kh4 or another future kh game

i disagree, unlike ff adventure and ff legend which were actually completely different series rebranded under ff name to boost sales, bravely default was from the start built as a classic style ff game and is basically a final fantasy game in all but name even to the point of having returning characters from ff the 4 heroes of light. its a spinoff of ff

Honestly I'd be interested in KH if they finally stopped putting Disney stuff in it.

In fact I'd love to see a KH game focused on Final Fantasy and other Squarenix licences (+ Dragon Quest as a cameo/unique world).

I forgot about which series FF Adventure and Legends are part of but I remember it in Europe as Mystic Quest.

I wish Squarenix still remembered the Classic FF experience again but I guess that it has to be a big 3D AAA franchise for the world.

Mobius Final Fantasy is a pretty cool game
Is this like Type-0?

I've yet to see VII show up when I pick up my weekly pulls at my local comic book/game store :(
you probably won't, and if you do, it will probably be expensive. i got a copy at a used game store and it was $46 dollars and that was about over 10 years ago. there's no telling how much it goes for nowadays.

Every so often they do get some interesting games in that I wouldn't expect to find on shelf and when I compare to price charting it's comparable. I found Earthbound and SNES FFII & FFIII there so FFVII would eventually have to show up and not be overpriced compared to market value.

Why are you like this, Square Enix. And barely any game got offline adaptation, if we exclude KH X (only cutscenes while Dark Road is the only playable one).
You can still play some of Mobius via Blank Project, I’m stuck on chapter 2 because there’s a bug where you can’t act on a certain level but other than that it’s been darn good.

just found out in final fantasy renaissance that any weapon or armor that you drop will appear at the desert caravan shop. i don't think it works with sold items though.
just thought that was interesting.
