Final Fantasy Thread

Looking back, I appreciate the political themes in FF7 and Tactics. Tactics, especially, with its scathing critique of religion and the themes about class warfare.
Same.
Those themes are my favorite in FF14 by far, and I’m sad they toned the diplomatic mission feel down in favor of more ”generic” save-the-world adventures (even though both have always coexisted in the game).

It’s still there occasionally but usually not in the same way as before. The writing in general feels more juvenile than it used to.

hello - i own final fantasy 16 but has yet to play it - i really enjoyed ff15 and the brotherhood that it made me feel - the cooking - just the overrall exp of the game - is ff16 gonna make me feel good and comtible like this lol - or is this a totally diff exp

Completely different.
16 is a much more serious story in general, and way more linear so there's not that "exploring with the gang" feel, but I don't mean that as a necessarily bad thing, just that they're very different.

Thank goodness I'm not the only one who actually enjoy ff15 exploration. Though the story is a mess..

I guess they're going back to its roots then. How much linear is it compared to FF VII remake?

I still wish squenix to at least integrate a bit of that open world feeling FFXV had. It doesn't have to be as open as Xenoblade but those linear rpg gameplay is caused by hardware limitations back in the day. They can do so much better now.

I've not played enough of 16 to warrant any real thoughts, and I only watched my brother play FF7R (the first part), sorry, which looked like it was structured almost like a Yakuza game. I feel like 16 is more open than that, but as I said I haven't really played it enough to be knowledgeable, but it's not an open world game I don't think?

Yakuza definitely feels more open world and have more things to do besides main quest (though much smaller) than ff7 remake which is very linear and I have played both. So maybe I'm not going to buy ff16 anytime soon 😢

Just don't take my word as whether or not you should get 16. I haven't played enough of it to be able to persuade or dissuade you.
My brother enjoyed it a lot. My biggest gripe is the rapid action gameplay. FF7R was a better inbetween action and menus imo.

So a question for you all, which is the better way to play the original ff tactics, war of the lions tweak or the ivalice chronicles?
probably one of the mods for the original like fft prime; i think one of the mods includes the extra content from the psp version in it. the ivalice chronicles remaster doesn't include the extra stuff, but does have a few new things that would be helpful like an option to enter random battles.
here's more info on the wiki page:

I prefer the modern script so no PSX version for me. I'm currently playing the PSP version with the slowdowns fixed. Can't justify a purchase of Ivalice Chronicles right now and it's my first time so I don't mind.
There's an overhead view in Ivalice Chronicles that I wish I had on PSP though.

Once I'm done with Tales of Arise I'm finally going to play FF Type-0. Or maybe Bravely Default II since I've had it for like 5 years in my backlog.

Type-0's intro is so sad...
I've read the prequel manga, Ice Reaper, and liked it a lot. Can't wait to start this.

I think it's the last Final Fantasy game made that has a world map? Anyway, HYPED!

Oh I hope you like it! I bounced off Type-0 ages ago when it had its PS4 release in the states, but I've always wanted to go back and give it another shot.

I'm currently doing that with Final Fantasy VIII. I'm somewhere in Disc One of the Remaster, and liking it much more than I did the first time I tried it.
