Well the game doesn't have different look for characters when equipped with different armor like Diablo 2 now that this was brought up it's actually a cool idea imagine everytime you changed the armor of a character the character clothes change that would be awesome
that works best with 3d models or large 2d sprites. the sprite size in nes games is 8 by 8, i think it was. you can't cram too much into such a small space.

i think, color adjustment or head change could be done though. but as You said before, it might be useless for the screen at the time, and add more development cost and time which is super precious even more at the time.

yeah, definitely. going by some of the stuff that i've heard about ff1, they spent quite a bit of time designing the character classes and trying to make each one distinct and recognizable as much as possible. and for the nes ff games, they had 3 colors to use per class. and the first one shares the color pallets between 3 classes each. the warrior, white mage and red mage all share the same pallet and if you change one color, it changes for all of them.
they had some insane limitations on that system.

I recall there is an article about artist is hard to enjoy their art is bounded with limitation. i think it's about lennus 2. they are surprised that their concept is well done in the pixel form. so based on this assumption of mine, i think lot of artist back then, cannot had much enjoyment to create some artform of theirs vs hardware limitation at the times.

i hadn't heard about that.
usually, limitations breed creativity; but i can easily see people getting frustrated that the tools that they have to work with can't or won't allow them to make their ideas reality. that's part of the reason that george lucas went all out with the prequel movies. he had better, fancier tech to work with.

i thought i would upload some pics from my latest art project.
i took a used copy of final fantasy: the spirits within; scrapped the cover, made my own and put both games from final fantasy chronicles in it.

This is awesome!!! Definitely have wanted to do this on a system like Sega Saturn where games are just incredibly expensive.

thanks. i plan on doing this for some more of my games.
i took a look to see how much sega saturn game cases are; i think you would be better off making your own. those things were priced at like 50 bucks minimum. find out what the dimensions are, get some good material and with some patience, you'll have a kick ass box that you can cover with the art work that you want for your games.

Got a really good Trinitron CRT again and started rebuilding my retro console-base. Currently debating on if I wanna replay FFVII or FFX first on my PS2, both are soooooo tempting!

i'd say play 10 first.

I plan on replaying both on the Switch at some point, and trying to do those perfect save challenges for them. I probably will start with 10.

That's also where I'm leaning. While I haven't seen FF7 running on a CRT to really make those background pop in quite some time, I also haven't seen FFX with the (imo) superior original graphics and facial expressions since I was a kid. Gonna be very nice to witness both of those games in their full glory once again <3

Do you remember this incredible trailer from E3 2006?

God this trailer got me so pumped back in the day! It was wild to learn that at the time they had only recently decided upon the general concepts that would eventually become FFXIII's battle system. Mere months prior they had a lot of general concepts and assets made, but parts of the story and the combat system in general had still been super tough for the team to figure out. When executives told them they were gonna put a FFXIII demo on the blu-ray release for Final Fantasy: Advent Children the team had to really scramble to hunker down and figure out a path forward to finish a demo and finally push to finish the title. Considering it had been in development for years at that point, that's so wild to think about.

FFX and FFVII are definitely my favorites. Honorable mention to V, VI and XII tho!

I played FF12 on PS2 years ago but never played The Zodiac job system until recently.
Yesterday i got to the tomb of wraith wall and realized i messed up and had two white mages and no black mage so had to load an old save file and lost like 5 hours worth of grinding :(
im aware you can choose a second job for each character after the wraith wall part but i would have ended up with one character being both white AND black mage and apparently thats not a good combo as the character will struggle with MP juggling two important roles. and apparently there are a bunch of other bad job combinations to avoid as well

they say it doesn't matter too much as you'll always be over powered no matter what jobs you choose but if you want a super strong party you need to do alot of job research & planning from the start of the game.

this is my party atm, with their primary jobs set
i plan to add their secondary jobs something like this
but open for suggestions :)

Vaan - Knight / Bushi
Blathier - Machinist / Uhlan
Fran - Archer / Red Mage
Basch - Monk / Foe Breaker
Ashe - Black Mage / Time Mage
Penelo - Shikari / White Mage

i have no white mage until i can appoint secondary jobs so gunna load up on potions.. :cautious:
and grind my black mage so its strong enough to cook the stupid wraithwall boss XD
thats the plan anyway. and im not starting this damn game from the start again ><

I first tried this game, and the Zodiac version is the only way I'm interested in doing it again. First time I gave it a chance, despite not being into the mechanics and premise, and got up to the Rogue Tomato before I got mad I couldn't beat the T-Rex and I quit. On top of that, we had to play as this loser Vaan, while his sexy ahh bro dies right away. Some bullshit. 😭

If it turned into an MMO through internet capabilies or linkup, then I'd have been more interested. I just didn't like how it was set up like an MMO, but not an MMO. From any other company, it would be acceptable, but for a franchise that has had several multiplayer main entries throughout the series, it was kind of a slap in the face.

I replayed it this spring emulated with native settings on my CRT and it was glorious. It looked so unbelievably good, a billion times better than any remaster.

did you know Vaans surname is "Ratsbane" hehe.
but yeah i think they added ALOT of new content on Zodiac age, the base game was kinda bland tbh.
and i know what you mean about it feeling like an offline MMO or something 😆
but i think Zodiac age is worth a playthrough just for the extra stuff, i think there is a bunch of super strong bosses and end game content as well as better gear to collect, like a Zodiac weapon for each class instead of just the Zodiac spear which was the best weapon on the original game.
i haven't really touched on any of the new content yet besides the job system but im actually enjoying my 2nd playthrough so far despite a couple of mistakes i made with job selections XD

yeah i think that T-Rex is for a bit later in the game lol
i think its there to teach you the flee mechanics or its just a cruel joke 🤷 XD
