Final Fantasy Thread

yeah, one of my first memories is playing super mario bros 1 in my living room. i've recently gotten used to using one controller for different systems on my computer. it just takes time and practice.
Not to forget patience.

that is a fair argument; but ff9 is vastly superior to 7, 8, and 13; and it takes place in a medieval setting.
sooo...::cirnoshrug.
we will just agree on people will like different games for different reasons, and that's all good.
While i disagree about FF9 being better than 7 but not to cause any world shattering arguments we gonna agree to disagree ::agree

yeah, patience is very important. playing rpgs and strategy games have helped build that skill up for me.

Why the hate of yuffie guys? Not like she killed your family bro yeah i know having your magic stolen and constantly made fun of by a 16 year old tomboy when you are supposed to be a respected ex-soldier isn't exactly fun but come on she can throw stuff and has some decent gameplay value no? Also how the hell is she lolibait like what? I don't think they were thinking about it when they made her as a character.
I don't really think the meme dislike of her persists that much these days. Also yea she isn't sexualized that much as far as I remember so I wouldn't rly put her in the category of unfortunately sexualized teenage characters or anything. Maybe she hits on Cloud a bit in OG? Haven't played rebirth to know what goes on there. Either way I'm sure its not /that bad/. I think people are just so tired of underage sexualization that they tend to be a bit too trigger happy in labeling any character under 18 that shows skin gooner/pedobait. It is very unfortunate!

She was likely less popular and less likely to get merch and mentions back in the day due to being a side character in the original game, and an optional one at that. Still, she is pretty prominently featured in Dirge of Cerberus so clearly by the mid-2000s the devs understood she had fans and wanted to flesh her out more. She got a whole DLC with Integrade so she is absolutely getting the respect she deserves at this point.

I love her and honestly I do think she's great fun. Always a fan of spunky and tomboyish characters, she was everything I wanted to be when I grew up (when you're 7, a 16 year old may as well be an adult to you haha). Always was a huge fan and always will be <3

i've always got the impression that yuffie and vincent were late additions to the game, considering that they are not present in the ending cgi cutscenes, which is aided by the fact that they are optional to recruit and don't add much to the story overall. some lore is added with them, but nothing earth-shattering.
but considering that we have a completely different protagonist for the game compared to the early stuff being worked on for the snes version, i think the time constraint that the game was under hindered the full potential the game could have had.

Oh most certainly! I wouldn't be surprised if they outright admit that Yuffie and Vincent were late additions in the Ultimanium (rly need to pick those up at some point). It's also probably why the decision to have Vincent get a spin-off game with Yuffie as a very prominent side character was made. Couldn't flesh em out right in the main game so may as well give em their due in a spin-off!

it's pretty plausible. a long time ago i was reading some fun facts on the wiki, and apparently cloud was going to have black hair, but was given yellow hair because that shows off the graphical prowess of the psx, which is also the same reason tidus is blonde in ffx, and why terra is blonde in dissidia alongside ignus in the game.
you were supposed to play as a detective in the snes version, cloud, tifa and barret were supposed to be antagonists who might have joined up with the main character later.
the superbosses, the emerald and ruby weapons, i think it was, weren't not in the japanese version of the first release of the game; they were exclusive to america until the international re-release.
aerith was meant to be playable for nearly the full game, since there is code and dialog for her to appear in areas and scenes long after she is dead.
three years of work, restarted twice, started with the snes, then n64 and then finally psx.
there's no telling what kind of game we would have gotten if it stayed on just one system from start to finish.
i'm quite surprised that the game works and functions as well as it does. it had about as much real development time as a nes game.

Yeah she is likeable for being such a scoundrel , her animation both winning animation and weakened animation are so funny it captures her character so well.

I didn't play dirge of cerberus but glad a game exists where we get to see to see more of Vincent and yuffie.

Tomboy characters always balance things out between normal girls and that one outlier

Oh yeah seer is pretty funny i used to watch his Diablo 2 videos dunno why turned to some turn based games when he was on a quest to find the best Action RPG? Looks like he figured it was Diablo 2....

Btw how often you use haste/slow guys? Are you a fan of crowd control spells?

it depends on the game and what version of it. ff4 for the psx had me convinced that buffs and debuffs didn't work and were just a waste of time. i didn't know back then that was the hard version of the game, so spells missing so often was supposed to happen. in other versions of the game, i use them and in the other games as well. usually on strong enemies or bosses.
it depends on the spell. if it's strong enough to defeat the enemy part in 1-2 turns, then yeah; they are alright. so far, the best one that i've used is bio from ff4. it's power is on par with the level 2 elemental spells, it's non-elemental so not much can resist it and it inflects sap on its target, which steadily drains hp. it also doesn't cost too mp much to cast it.

Lol nah they do work missing in Turn based games is a huge middle finger for me like that's a turn or a move GONE no damage or anything helpful by that team member.

I didn't use poisonous spells that often despite them countering giant type enemies i just relied on elemental stuff , btw how useful you think silence is? Being able to make enemy unable to cast spells is huge , i don't recall it working on bosses tho usually buff/debuff spells are most useful in long fights like boss fights it's also where as you said poison is best casted.

well, ff4 on the psx is the hard version of the same game on the snes version. they made versions, easy type and hard type; and they were not lying.

i've noticed for the most part that debuffs really aren't worth it. the enemies can either dodge it too often or are immune to it; and in some cases where i've seen them land on both regular enemies and bosses, it doesn't hinder the opponent. i remember that there was a boss in a game who could be hit with silence, but it was a pure melee fighter, so that was a rather pointless weakness to give to it.

i don't mind bosses having immunities but they should get them as you progress through the game. weaker bosses at the start shouldn't resist the spells but endgame ones should have one weakness to a debuff if none at all. ffx is so far the only game in the series where i can recall bosses being able to have weakened defenses, lowered magic power, silenced, poisoned and slow actually worked. i only learned about 2 days ago that you can inflect some status effects like that to bosses in ff4 from the seer video. i tried before on several of them only to see nothing happen.

Looks like i played the hard version without knowing.....explains why FF4 was in a nutshell my ass getting beaten by pretty much everyone both lorewise and gameplay wise.

Silence did save me couple times i think it's perfect for kefka tower in 6.

Yeah bosses being immune to status effect limits these spell usage making them more niche than they should be , but if i remember the spell that reduces enemy armor does work on them so that's a win!

yeah, especially the regular enemies. i had easier times with the bosses like leviathan than the stupid little demon dudes that you fight on your way to fight the king of summons.

in the disgaea series, status debuffs work on nearly everyone. bosses have to be given a special ability to either make them immune to the staus decrease or just severly weaken the effects. you can lower their defenses almost down to 1 point in some cases and their offensive stats as well.

There was a king of summons? The Leviathan you mean....you mean those in the cave right? Yeah i just kept running and running that's the best course of action.

Reminds me of Final Fantasy tactics with knight ability to weapon break and reduce damage to 1 btw what up with your FFT playthrough

yeah, the faymarch as it goes by nowadays. you can fight the king and queen of the summons there and get them for rydia to use. i'm guessing that you also misses out on the sylph summon and the most powerful weapon in the game too, huh?

i'll be getting back to playing ff tactics later today. got an art request from a person on deviantart that i need to do some work on first.

How better the PS1 Games would have been if they had voice acting but they probably couldn't shove voice acting in size was an obstacle and good VAs at the time were probably rare

considering how megaman x4 and megaman 8 were with the voice acting, it's probably a god thing that there wasn't any voice acting for the games.
