first time playing this game and stuck on the elmdore lucavi fight, fans lie this game is ball busting hard, i felt bad at first for grinding and min maxing, but you really need level 99 and complex setups to beat this game without stress and praying to rng, anyway it's a good game, better than modern ones

Ummm lol. It does take some rng luck, but you can definitvely beat Elmdor without a lvl 99 party. You need a hasted dual wielding Ninja Ramza and some other busted party members. You also need status protection against charm from the dancer girls. The biggest determining factor is if the RNG decides to cooperate and Rafa gets out of the way. I'm not sure if you are talking about the rooftop fight or the one inside the building, but they both are beatable with the right equipment/party.

Enemies level up with you (similar to FF8) which makes the game challenging throughout. I remember the auto potion ability being a life saver throughout this game. This is one of, if not thee best game ive played in terms of gameplay which at times can be very tricky, especially during boss fights as your character arrangement before the battle matters GREATLY. I actually defeated the final boss with all my characters dead minus 1 and killed the boss when his magic spell damaged him because i was right next to him therefore killing himself. Played the ps1 version and looking forward to the enhanced psp release

In Final fantasy tactics on PSP enemies get highest level you have at your party. Yep it make the game do freaky hard but if you get an orator in start of game you can get high level enemies to your party. It is so useful on emulators.
But in consoles......"you've met the trouble fate, haven't you?"
Gba version is a piece of cake and it had some OP skills.

The first time I played this I had a hard time defeating Wiegraf in his Lucavi form (I didn't expect he would transform lol). The difficulty spike that time surprised me as I had to restart my whole save file from the beginning because I screwed up saving. But just like batman with enough preptime you can overcome any battle in this game.

Yeah Wiegraf is one of those moments in gaming where you learn the value of having multiple save files. As those castles with 3 inescapable battles are an easy way to soft lock yourself.

Kinda sad though. I think the tactics games of final fantasy are the only game that's not ported to pc yet.

And the reason why I learned to find a walkthrough.:LOL::LOL:

Archers are your best friends. Makes the game so much easier. I recommend Front Mission 3, and Tactics Ogre after tactics, which I consider the 2 greatest SRPGS of all time, above tactics. If you want more after those 3, check out Vandal Hearts 1.

Is there anyway to play Final Fantasy Tactics S. I believe this game was released only for mobile in 2013. Is there anyway to play it today?

Naw you don't need all that. Just use 'yell' and have a fast team over a beefy team any day. You gotta be careful leading up to Limberry Castle. Many of us had to restart our entire playthroughs lol

I heard about restarting whole play but I never seen it.
one reason I rather to play GBA FFT is this game was so good you can level up so quick and get best jobs fast.

Final Fantasy Tactics is more of a slow-burn but with a much deeper payoff once you learn to adapt to its systems. It takes a while but the AHA moment makes it ALLL worthwhile! Also the payoff to the story is truly masterful as well. So many gut-punches in this game and they are all wonderful. (maybe I'm a masochist?)

Belated response, but @SleepyRyGuy has the right of it. The story's pretty intense, the villains are mostly well-written (Wiegraf and Gafgarion are both awesome), and even the political intrigue cutscenes are worth witnessing.

I've gushed over Final Fantasy Tactics a lot on RGT already, really. Ramza may be my favorite Final Fantasy hero, and in my top three favorite fictional characters in general. He's basically this coddled young man who faces the grim reality of the world he lives in, but tries to mature and be an unsung hero due to still having a good heart. There's a quote I wanted to say about his valor over his fellow nobleman brothers -- how in spite of being a bastard child, Ramza is more deserving of being called "noble" for his deeds, but his highborn brothers are more worthy of being called bastards for theirs.

Ramza and Delita's shared trauma also make a great parallel for each other's actions.

That said, the game isn't perfect. It's really really good, mind, and most of my favorite things do have notable flaws. But yeah, there are certain battles that wind up being a brick wall for first-time players. Baraius Hill was one of mine with those damn Summoners. And this meme about the Wiegraf duel, of which you're given no conveyance of beforehand and how to beat? Yeah, it exists for a reason.

...also I despise the rooftop fight where you have to protect Rafa, because she's damn near suicidal from her idiot AI. >:(

Also yeah, I remember liking FFT Advance and A2. I think Advance has a better story than A2, but I also liked the magical summer vacation vibes from the latter. I've beaten all three Tactics at this point.

No such thing as giving TOO MUCH love to Final Fantasy Tactics. I'll say my bit as well. Ramza is an outstanding protagonist b.c much like us, he's initially in the dark about what's going on around him. So as he comes into the fold, into the light, so too do we. It makes it easier to find agreeable touching points between audience and protagonist.

Ramza undergoes seismic changes as a character and we are right there witnessing the whole thing as companions of sorts, seeing through the eyes of the Durai files. 'Witness' is an important word here b.c by joining Ramza we are gaining insight into how myth and precedent and history are often obscured through the lens of time, societal and religious control. There is correlation between the world of Ivalice and the present reality we currently live in. We are seeing power and institutions trying to protect their own interests for its own sake, no matter whom it hurts. Hence, the FFT memes. So its easy to identify with those who find this unjust. Ramza, disgusted by this, and living up to his noblesse oblige, is one of the brave few who decides to take a different path, that of the lonely hero... Who makes the ultimate sacrifice and yet whose exploits are known only by a few b/c of the danger his story poses to the status quo.

Ramza's selflessness and humanity is anathema to the church and to its hold on power. It's such a rich yet seemingly familiar premise. One wonders what kind of parallels, if any, are being drawn between the story of FFT and the general historical accounts featured in Western canon, notably the christian bible, involving Jesus' Death and the aftermath. I wish I could've been a fly on the wall during the storyboarding of FFT by Hasumi Matsuno. You know the guy probably created some kickass dioramas.

Any other common pitfalls I should avoid? I did see some people talking about areas that were brutal and to save a lot.
Oh yes. Pitfalls.

Ok soldier! up and at em! We got some battles to win! Captain Murphy at your service!

1) Diversify your team's ability pools. The job system can be best taken advantage of by diversifying. Early game, in order to simplify roles, it's Always good to have a dedicated priest/healer separate from an offensive/spellmage so they don't dip into each others mp pool and run out of spell-casts when they need them most. Make sure to develop a chemist so that you can learn 'hi potion', 'fenix down' and potion right off the bat. Also learn the 'Throw item' skill b.c it allows you to cover more ground when things get rough.

a) When you are recruiting new characters in towns wait until you get one with high brave and high faith before you accept. You can keep re-rolling. (ideally +70 each) and this will help you out a lot with more able characters to adorn the battlefield. Do this at the beginning of the story if you can to save yourself headaches later on. Higher character faith allows better healing and magic damage, high brave allows for better physical damage and I believe resistance to physical attacks.

b) ideally you'll want some crossover abilities later on so that each character on the battle field can heal, do damage as needed etc.

2) The decisions you make in the story can improve the brave and faith of every person on your team, potentially. It's kind of like an honor system. The more honorable your choices, the better the rewards tho it can make the objectives of certain battles slightly more challenging. Later on you can buff these stats permanently with class abilities so don't worry too much.

3) Get Orlandu. lol. Game over! You'll understand when you make it to him. Unfortunately you have to defeat Riovanes castle first, which is no small feat. Speaking of which...

4) Make several save files periodically. The aggravating part people are talking about is the lead up to Riovanes castle. You want to make sure you have the chameleon robe and possibly maxed out squire abilities before you move on to Riovanes or you can really screw yourself and have to start over. The first battle is potentially very tough, but the second one is just awful. The third one is even worse lol. The squire skill, "Yell" will be your friend here. In fact, unlock 'Yell' asap. It will give you +1 speed for each turn for the entirety of the battle and you can cast it on everybody. It's incredibly powerful in story battles but can also be used for the purposes of grinding so that all your characters get turns immediately and can max out job abilities.

5) think about combining abilities of different classes. The monks 'barehanded' and 'martial arts ability' can be paired with the ninja class two-sword ability to basically break the game. Pairing THIS with the squire abilities that increase passive damage each turn you use it will make you into a wrecking ball of devastation. Class abilities such as 'speed save' on the archer can be learned so that each time you take damage you receive +1 speed for the rest of the battle. Opt for speed and power where you can but if you have to choose one or the other, optimize speed.

6) Use Agrias b.c she is my sweet girl waifu and she can potentially be incredible as an early sword specialist with sword arts.

7) Mustadio + make him into chemist, with the 'throw item' ability and master the class and one of your roster spots will be set for the entire game. Mustadio has an incredible speed stat and can use guns. Allowing him use of the chemist abilities just feels natural.

8) Experiment! Go nuts. Have fun. Save often.

9) PS. get a summoner as early as possible. Those guys hit hard and can do it from a distance!
