The game's (and also series') first official port is...an experience. This was legitimately one of the weirdest experiences I've ever had, for more reasons than it would like to admit.
Most don't know this version exists, and consequentially is very rarely mentioned. There's a couple longplays and another video that does a full version comparison of FFI, but even that isn't in-depth enough with how bizarre it actually is. On top of this being my first MSX game, I wanted to really dig deep as I played through it, which resulted in a more time-intensive project. Unfortunately, I also had private drama and other issues come up that pushed it back, making a video that I could have uploaded back around November become the last one published with 2025 material. This was the ultimate result of my findings.

Apologies in advance if there's some audio weirdness; some dialogue is much older than recent parts, and I didn't want to attempt remaking those lines. It had a rough enough development as it is.
Also yes I'm aware the megathread exists. I don't really like posting in them because who the hell wants to sift through thousands of messages just to find something like this?

Anyway, here you go. Feel free to share it to other places, if you want.

Well, Can't say non-scholars would enjoy the game, but also it's nice to see that game meant the MSX could do more than just shooters or platformers

Cool stuff. The only weirder thing than that would be a random PC port exclusively sold in Korea or Taiwan. A surprisingly large number of JRPGs got that kind of treatment for some reason.

The MSX in general is an interesting piece of work. Of course, it requires actually diving into the system to see what you can find, but it's probably the best known of the Japanese 8-bit PC line (although that may be due to the boatload of Konami titles like the first two Metal Gears, in addition to them releasing a compilation set on the PS and Saturn in Japan).

I would argue it's because MSX was sold in quite a few places outside Japan.

Yeah, that's true, too. Blindsided that little bit when I shouldn't have, but we all miss things sometimes.

Bumping the thread to try to get anything else on this site.

Yeah, I've noticed a few say that it was getting spread around. The past few days have had some slower traction, though. I'm just hoping it manages to get another surge this week.

I wonder why they went with the jittery pixel by pixel scrolling instead of screen by screen scrolling like other msx ports of nes games? I guess it would have probably been harder and taken more time to make everything fit well but the scrolling is really what ruins this port the most. The rest of the stuff isn't really much worse than the other early versions but the scrolling makes it kind of unplayable.
